[IMG] Just wanted to understand how the DC of a spell my wizard casts is calculated. Specifically, does it depend on
    1. Intelligence
    2. Wizard level
    3. Level of spell (is level 9 spell more difficult to resist than level 1 spell)
    4. Feats like spell penetration/spell focus

    Thanks in advance.

For the most cases in NWN the dcs of the spells are calculated by this formula:
10 + ability modifier ( Int, Wis or Cha)+ spell level
    (+ feature like spell focus)
example: Fireball ( sorcerer Cha: 16, spell focus evocation)
    dc= 10 + 3 (Cha)+ 3 (spell level)+ 2 (spell focus)=18
This way the dc functions the most time in NWN, but there are spell which dc is calculated in a different way ( Implusion, Black Blade of Disaster, etc.). I don't know exactly the formula but I think it's calculated like this:
dc= 10+ level of the magic using class (Wiz, Sorc, Cleric, etc.)+ ability modifier+ spell focus
I don't know if the second formula is correct.

Thanks Niemroth, the first formula seems to be correct.

I will check out the second formula once my wizard reaches high enough level to cast implosion etc.

    It is only the following:

d20 roll + Spell Level + Int Modifier + Feats.

Max legal DC is 35 in the game, IIRC.

Sorry Shivi, but implosion is a cleric-spell, your wizard can't cast it.
Faraaz, I created a level 40 sorcerer via xp-cheat and took all greater CHA features and epic spell-focus necromacy. Then I created a +12 CHA-item. With all buffs I had a sorcerer with CHA=50.
My DC for wail of banshee was:
    10+ 9+ 20+ 6= 45

So DC 35 is not the max legal DC in the game.
I have the basic NWN and both expansions SOU and HOTU installed.

    Niemroth has the correct formula.

For unmodded games, DC45 is the max. And dont doubt it, well made spellcasters do make it 45 for most used spells like Wail. Those 10 Great int/cha feats take a lot of space, so it's almost impossible to have a rounded spellcaster with three epic focuses. It doesnt matter much, since the really useful spells are in Necromancy anyway.

The only way to increase it further is to increase casting stat naturaly this cant be done in single player. Think tomes of wis/int/cha, machine of Lum the mad from BG. That kind of an increase. In NwN this is most commonly done with a sub-race.

The prestige class Red Dragon Disciple is another way to increase your INT or CHA attributes. But this way you losse epic bonus features of your sorcerer or wizard so you can end without the epic spellfocus.

Edit: My bad...I was thinking of the game Pre-Epic... :p
