Okay, It's right before the final showdown w/ Sarevok and his goons. My party consists of: my PC, a lvl 6 warrior, minsc, imoen, danaheira(y'know, minscs girlfriend, don't remember how you spell her name)Garrick, and that dwarf cleric guy you can get in the bandit mine. Tezik? Zazak? Whatever. I don't have any monster summoning spells, and I just can't seem to beat him!!!

Woah! Level 6? Dude, what are you doing there so soon? I mean, it's possible to do it, but I'd suggest upping your levels. Or maybe getting some better stocks.

Go for a romp through the woods, hit the Firewine, visit Ulcaster School.

Level up like a crazy man and then try to take him on. (Oh yeah, stock up a bit as well)

So soon? Whaddaya mean? Bg1 doesn't exactly have a lvl 40 cap, y'know! How high would you reccomend before tackling Sarevok, anyway? Smart alecky Jaguar. Hmph.
(P.S. I romp through the woods all the time! Honest! And Firewine and Ulcaster are my favorite tourist attractions! Really! Okay, that's not true! Sniffle!)

Have you gone to the Bassilisk forest? Each of those little ones is worth between 5000 and 7000 XP points, IIRC. Have you done all or most possible quests in BG city to get more XP? I had long ago reached the XP cap when I fought Sarevok.

Also, how are you trying to beat him? What weapons have you got, what potions and spells? Any items that improve your AC and THAC0? Potions of Magic Resistance, Giant Strengh and Oils of Speed make wonders. Magical weapons and bracers too.

If you have Yeslick (the cleric of the mines) you can buff Minsc and your main character with Bless, Aid, Protection against Evil and spells alike, while Garrick can sing. Yeslick could also summon some skeletons to act as a meat (bone) wall, couldn't he?

Garrick and Dynaheir could slow down Sarevok's cronies with some intelligently placed Slow, Stinking Clouds and Web spells, if you learned them. If Imoen has multiclassed to mage, use her firepower too. Use Haste and Strength spells with your party members.

If Imoen has not multiclassed to mage, there is little she can do other than trying to backstab with the Poisoned Dagger (did you buy this dagger?) and hope to instill some poison in Angelo, the mage (specially him) or Tazok. She can also try to blow them to pieces using fire potions, fireball arrows if you have, or the Necklace of Missiles.

Alternatively, if you did the Firewine bridge you may have found a CloudKill scroll. If your mages use it against the bad guys it will probably kill them all instantly, except for Sarevok. Then, hit him with all you've got.

My people all have fairly standard equip. My tank(who's also my PC) has spiderbane, tamoko's armor, boots of speed, some potions. I've also got assorted trinkets, like thet ring of free movement. Unfortunately, I didn't spend to much time bolstering either dynaheir or garricks spell assortment( I usually send my PC in to rip them to shreds and only use magic for an occasional back-up) I have no cloudkill, but that sounds like a good way to simplify things. Can you buy that in the magic shop in the city? I'm stinking rich, so money's not an object(about 50,000). I've not dual-classed imoen, but she does have the backstabbing short sword, and I've got lots of wands( ice, 2 lightning, fire blast). Also, dynahier has fireball.
So far, what I've tried is having my cleric summon skeletons, having them on the ready, then luring sarevok's wizard out seperately, killing his ass, then have dynahier and garrick creep up and launch fireballs at the area where sarevok, angelo, and tazok are located. Then, when sarevok comes out, all hell breaks loose. He's unstoppable, even with all six of my guys going at him. I've got a great arrow arsenal, too, if that helps.

Even when you are higher levels, Sarevok is very tough and will beat any of your party at melee combat.

The three best methods to defeat him are:
    1. Sneak up and use cloudkills to kill them before you are seen. (very cheesy)
    2. Summon loads of helpers and use tons of range weapons before her gets close.
    3. Have your thief sneak up and backstab sarevok, go-invis, backstab, etc, etc.

Personally, I normally do method 2. Just go back to BG and buy some wands of monster summoning and scrolls of animal summoning. You can also do the backstab trick in conjunction with it all.

Ignore the mages, if you can. If you can't then just get some scrolls/potions of protection from magic.

You can get a scroll of cloudkill for free, on the map south of Nashkell (near where Sendai and her goons are).

Yep, summoning is the key, and tons of magic missiles to Sarevok.
    A little addition:
If Semaj caused trouble with his magic things, get some arrows of dispelling. When battle starts, shoot him with it: he will lose all the protections and his spells will be disrupted. Now any arrows will kill hom soon, due to weak mage AC.

    Ahem.

A SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND, AND I, WITH MY LEVEL SIX AVERAGE PARTY HAVE THUSLY KICKED SAREVOK'S ARMORED BEHIND.

    Thanks, folks, for your assistance!

P.S. Bard and Baronius win the prize for best advice. I employed the "summon a crap-load of monsters and shoot at him a lot" method. Thanks again, you two in specific!

With TOTSC installed it is 161,000 xp (I think its 89000 in standard). This is basically a L8 fighter, L10 Thief/Bard, L8 Cleric, L10 Druid and L9 Mage.

This is why it is an advantage to take a char from BG1->BG2 as you will have a higher starting level to make things easier.

If you play DSOTSC with xp cap is removed, but will be forced when importing into BG2.

i remember massing up on creature summoning wands ;S and massing them up, i don't think there is a limit break on the first Baldur's Gate.. ~~ becouse thats the only way i remember killing dizzit lol, there is a creature time limit though, so you just gotta get like 100 creatures out then then attack. Just make all your chars attack with ranged items. (peircing arrows) ext.

Is it just me or was the showdown with the infamous savey a big letdown. I'd been in loads of battles previously with my party that I'd have to have a couple of attempts but when it came to the big guy, he fell first time, I was expecting a bit of a challenge at least :( ...oh well, theres always BG2 :D

It wasn't so much a letdown as it was cheesy. Sarevok and Drizzit are the only two enemies where I just surround them with summon monsters while I fire arrows. It's just that with Sarevok, so few strategies are effective. Even if you straight out attack him using all of your melee characters, he'll smoke all of them.

I must admit that there are other battles that use a lot more strategy and skill to defeat. To name a few that immediately spring to mind: The chess game in Durlag's Tower, and the battle on the top floor the first time you go to the Iron Throne.

[IMG] Unfortunately, as Aldeth says; Sarevok and Drizzt are way beyond your capabilities... You'll have to wait until BG2 to be as good as them. So this leaves the only two strategies efective enoeugh to slay him:

1.- Backstab with boots of speed, potion of strength and potion of invisivility. This strategy is useless against Drizzt because he's scripted to have boots of speed also.

2.- Summon like Hell and then snipe him.

Magic missile works on him, but you'll need about 30 spells, so this only adds a little.

I used a tactic which is really cheesy.
I first took care of his lackeys, (hard to do it before talking, but it is possible, if you walk in the right way), and then sended my close ranged fighter too him (Khalid in my case), too talk too him, i sended my party towards the entrance/exit, after the talking, i walked around with Khalid through the room, and had the rest of my party attacking him with long-range weapons, but make sure he doesn't come near them, or he attacks them, instead of the close-ranged party member.

Has anyone tried to cast 6 Fireballs (or similar) using Nacklace of missiles, arrows of detonation and spells, all at once?

I was at the xp cap when I fought Sarevok and engaged him in melee with just my PC fighter and Khalid, with Branwen constantly healing them. It's tricky but possible without summons, backstabs, or missile weapons.

Drizzt was another story entirely, though. Just for fun, I edited my PC fighter to have all 25 stats and the best gear, then cloned him six times for a full party. Drizzt still killed one of them before going down.
