[IMG] What's the deal with the Chessboard under Tanglewood estate? I can disarm all the traps, but what about the pawns? I tried "using" the pawns, and then I "bashed" them all (which destroyed them), but nothing happened... Am I wasting my time with this silly thing, or is there some trick with the chessboard that wins you a necktie of henchman-AI-improvement?

Except for the traps, I don't think it has any purpose at all. It is simply there to justify the existence of a secret passage between the mansion and the prison; remember how lady Tanglebrooke used to meet her cousin (or whatever) the head gaoler for a chess game.

I *think* (its been a while) that the statues are useable/smashable, so if you're not a pc with disarm trap, you can smash a safe path around the trapped squares, through the pawns.

    Not positive though.

At least one of the squares with pawns is trapped, so be careful trying to find safe passage that way.

Quite true. Destroying one of the pawns that light up will eliminate a trap. However, as has been stated, at least 1 pawn has a trap under it.

The trick with the pawns is, that they act like in a real game of chess. The squares with the traps, are the ones that they would threaten on the board. And if you smash the pawns, the traps will disappear. Simple as that!

[IMG] Cool, I never noticed that before. Okay, I give Bioware a few brownie points for this puzzle...
