I already own Baldur's Gate and just recently purchased Baldur's Gate, The Original Saga.

I did this because I wanted the original game AND Tales of the Sword Coast together in one package.

What's got me confused is that the original game came with 5 CD's, but the Original Saga edition has 3 game CD's and 1 Soundtrack CD.

Why is this? Was any content deleted from the games? Is file compression just that much better now? Is it just a case where CD storage has improved since the original BG came out?

    Any info is greatly appreciated!!!

p.s. Was disappointed with the Original Saga package. The CD's are in paper sleeves (not jewel cases) and the games manual is on a CD, not a printed booklet. Just a bit of info for anyone intending on buying the set.

Better compression is the dominant factor; another one is removing redundant area tilesets. Many of the interior areas in BG are the same in appearance--the original 5 disc set used copies of one tileset per area, whereas in ToS they are shared.

None of the content is different, unless you count that ToS does not require a patch.

As far as items are concerned, I know a difference in the respect of the content.
Original Saga's Spider's Bane is quite different from the Baldur's Gate's version's (and if you install TotSC on your BG, it won't change it).
(Spider's Bane is a two-handed sword that can be found in an area of Cloakwood full of spiders.)

There may be other differences as well, I assume.

Just wanted to pop in and thank CamDawg and Baronius for the replies!

I was concerned that I'd lose out on some game content, but now I feel better.

    Thanks Again!!!
