[IMG] I just had to do a system restore (that was fun), and that resulted in all my information being lost since May 2002. I have to re-install all my BG games and patches.
    :aww:

    I'm starting with BG1, natch. ;)

I only needed the XP cap remover patch for BG1.
The one I just downloaded from here today seems different than the one from years ago. That one was just something added to the override folder if I recall correctly.

This one tells me I need to place it in the BG directory before it will run and do what it's suppose to do. Does that mean the the main BG1 folder or one of the subfolders (which one if so)?

Also I downloaded the BG Portrait Manager for the first time.
It is suppose to work with BG1 and BG2.
Do I just place the program in the main Black Isle folder or do I need to place a copy in each BG1 and BG2 folder? And does it work with IWD (the original) as well?

There are 2 or 3 BG1 cap removers on SP, in the Editors and in the TeamBG subsections. Take your pick, all should work.

The portrait manager is supposed to work for both BG1 and BG2. I'm not sure about IWD, but probably too. Just try it out. I don't remember off-hand, so you might as well check yourself. ;)

    Hello Tal.

I got everything working right again (I think! ) but that portrait manager only transfers already extracted ones around from folder to folder. Nice if your doing large numbers, but copy/paste is just as good for the handful I have.

I was looking for something to extract portraits from BG2 and IWD to use them in BG1 for my player character in future games. I have WINBIFF. Does that work on them as it does on items? What folder are the game portraits in in BG1/BG2/IWD?

    -Thanks for any help.

Yes, that's all the portrait manager does, it's not an extractor tool.

I don't remember if the portraits are in bif's, but if they are, WinBIFF should do. But it's easier all around to just use Near Infinity ( http://www.idi.ntnu.no/~joh/ni/ ), for example.

I forgot Shadow Keeper and Dale Keeper extract the portraits!

Gate Keeper doesn't but all the BG1 portraits are in BG2.

    Speaking of portraits....

So being a big fan of THE Drizzt, I downloaded the Drizzt Do'Urden Version2.25... and it was then that the fun began! Where, for the love of Pete, is the Portrait directory? I know the ReadMe for BG says its in the install directory, but do you think I could find that one? That's a big ol' nope. Can you give me a hand with this? I'm just about *sure* that I sound like the total n00b that I am, but hey, everyone's a n00b at first, right? Right...?

[IMG] Well, it's wherever you put it when you installed it first. The default is in Program Files\Black Isle\BG.

I have searched that folder up and down, and perhaps I'm just not sure what it is I'm supposed to be looking for?

IIRC, Baldur's Gate doesn't create a Portraits folder automatically when you install the game. You normally need to create that folder.

@spookylittlegirl, if you have found where Baldur's Gate is installed, simply create a new folder called 'Portraits' inside.

Worked like a charm! Thanks! :D

And now for something else... again with the n00bisms... There I was, kicking derriere and taking names as the Mighty Drizzt, when I noticed I had all but run out of hit points. I mean, c'mon, dude slashs badduns once and they dang near explode, like I'm thinking about my hit points. And, being the BG virgin that I am, I have no idea how to get them up again... short of resting 90 times in a row (total waste of time, obviously). Oh, and magic doesn't work because he's got Defense Against Magic on all the time (spent 300gp on cures before I figured that one out). Can I get a pat on the head and a "ok dear, here's what you do" (and I don't mind if follow that with rolling your eyes)?...

    [IMG] (Just kidding)

Never played with Drizzt, but if his magic resistance is that high that prevents you from healing him, and not even healing potions are working, you could try one of the following:

    (1) Edit your Drizzt character with GateKeeper:
    ===============================================
Open your savegame with Gatekeeper and reduce Drizzt's magic resistance to an acceptable level, until healing spells work on him most of the time.

Spellcasters in BG1 are not that hard, and you can always get a couple of potions and scrolls of magic resistance for the hard battles. So losing MR is not that bad.

    (2) Use The CTRL+R (healing) cheat:
    ===============================================

Edit the "Baldur.ini" file in the game directory with Notepad. Add the line "Cheats=1" (without the inverted commas) under [Game Options]. Then, in the game press the keys [Ctrl] + [Tab] to display the console prompt.

Type this line exactly and press enter: CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys()

After you have done this, you can heal your character by selecting him and pressing the keys [CTRL] and [R] together. Note that you will need to use the CLUAConsole command again if you load a savegame.

Colthrun, will you marry me? YOU ROCK! GateKeeper worked like a charm, thanks! Now if I could just figure out where to go next in this game, I'd be set! Ah well, I'll figure it out...

And just a note, it was *really* weird to run into Drizzt in the game, when I'm playing as Drizzt. But we tore apart about 20 gnolls in seconds, THAT was cool

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions eventually. I have BGII sitting here also... HA!

Ah well, don't say I didn't ask... I will settle for simply being allowed to refer to you as The Mighty Answerer Of All That Is Game-ish... or something shorter... or just Bob... Never mind...
