Ok so I am using a ranger...

And HE is obviously able to cast spells however unlike everyone else that uses the priest scroll he doesn't get any when leveling... now My question is why and what can I do about it...

Second, I have garric the bard in my party, and he uses the spell book, so I need to make him write magic...

Now He already has quite a few spells, but when I go to the quick spell slot they show up grey... why is that?

Thanks in advance for any help...

As for Garrik, the spells are greyed out because you are probably wearing armour. Wizard spells cannot be cast whilst wearing armour. Scrolls can be cast, but not memorised spells.

As for a ranger, you cant choose new spells. You will one or two new spells upon levelling, but it is really very rare. You dont get any choice over it, however. You just have to go with whatever is given to you.

The BG2 documentation says that rangers get their first memorization spell slot at level 8 with 150000 xp. My BG1 manual's lost, but its advancement should be consistent. That level cannot be reached under the standard BG1 xp cap and, I think, not even with TotSC.

If you later bring the character to BG2, you'll be able to memorize spells there. Like a cleric, you will be able to memorize any class suitable spell of the appropriate level in each slot. Rangers, like clerics, have no problem casting in armour.

The level cap with TotSC is 161000 XP: enough to get to level 8 as a Ranger or a Fighter or 10 as a Thief or Druid.

If you use a multiclass Ranger/Cleric you will be able to use both Cleric and Druidic spells. ;)

    thanks everyone....

I'ma try that remove the armour thing.... that might be it....

AS for memoization... he can and does memorize em... Just the same as a mage.... It'S just that when your playing, (on the normal game screen) when you try to cast a spell then all his spells are gray and I can't cast any....

But I suppose it could be the armor... He'S got the Mithril armor which I so humbely stole of Drizzed... lol

I suppose I'll have to give that to somebody else...

    Thanks a lot... :)

    EDIT:

OK, NM... I get it... you where taliking about the "Ranger"...lol Sorry....

OK.. so then what'S the point of a ranger to get spells if one cant get em without cheating??

That'S just dumb.... Is there no way to get my ranger to learn spells? or gain a memorization slot?

    I mean.... that'S just rediculus....lol....

But I'll see what I can do with the extention.... I haven't yet installed it....

    Thanks again.. :)
