Best way to make a hit:

    • Look good. Natural beauty is okay. Surgery and cosmetics are way better.
    • Simple lyrics. No profundity. No message. And surely no emotional value.
    • Computers. Filter all unevennesses and possible faults. If your voice is really terrible, then change it into some robot/cyborg-voice like Cher (with the surgeries) does.
    • A weird dance. Mix maccarena with the catch up/ketchup (sp???)-song et voila. Make sure 5 y/o kids can do it. (Kabouter Plop - Kabouterdans for the Dutchies or Gnome/Brownie Plop and his Dance of the Gnomes for people who like a translation)
    • Use simple continuous melodies and keep repeating them. Preferably no accords or discords.
Probably some more, but we must be too intelligent to notice.

    Don't know who Bond is...
I'm thinking of Ofrah Harnoy, or the Eroica Trio among a few...
No, I actually wouldn't wear the slit dress etc...I did wear PVC pants while playing Mozart on a friends Grad Recital. I discovered those don't work well when you need to wipe the sweat off your palms!

Seriously though, I have always thought women who underdress on the classical stage are doing so because they lack something else, like musicality.

[IMG] You are not in the least too old, I am 16 and I find myself in constant disgust over the crap that is considered popular. I also have a beef with the punk scene any group that has the idiocy to come up with a song called "F*** a Dog" should be drug out into the street and promptly shot.

what is the link between liking rpg's and disliking popular music? there must be some, because everyone around here seems to agree on this! For me the problem with new music is that it is either a great old song completely messed up in a remix or the text hasn't got any message what so ever (except perhaps, baby yur cewl wanna ****?).

The best thing about this is that if you see a best of list of all times it's 80% (if not more) pre 90's. This in itself is allready a sign of the low quality of nowadays music.

[IMG] Some new stuff is okay - I tihnk we're entering a new era of music. (if you get what I mean) I think perhaps that bands like Atmoic Kitten should leave the stage - they do nothing but redones of old songs - they are worse

The ketchup song, Cheeky song, hell - even the Peanutbutter jelly song is better!

Britney -> I think fame ruined her, she now thinks she is really popular and everything making people think she's a stuck up barbie - basically she is. All modified plastic and air inside the head.

Christina and J-Lo... Christina has all that money and still her clothes have holes in, J-lo, from what I've seen keeps herself respectable and her songs aren't all that bad.

Sisqo (iirc) most of his songs were for a laugh, though apparently people did send him things... :shake:

I'm afraid I shall disagree with some of you who say you don't like anything in the charts and prefer things from the 80s' 90s' and beforth but I don't really like 80s' music I like things like the Sugababes and things like that - I like new stuff, I hate it when people get fixed ideas about me when they ask what type of music I like - Rock and Rap, doesn't mean I'm a gangster or some drug taking guttergal. Most people like me if they get to know me, unless they don't take the time of course

What I find really annoying is when you tell someone about an artist you like then they start slagging them off for the sake of it.

Speaking of which, I must say that I utterly, utterly despise the way that "Blue" have MURDERED one of the greatest Elton songs of all time.

"Sorry seems to be the hardest word" was once a heartfelt and striking melody, played by a man with great musical talent. However, those dumbass boyband ScumEase muppets have seized it, stuck a BEAT into it, UPPED the TEMPO, and FORCED Elton to sing while they recite pointless pieces of crap like "C'mon" in the background. IT MAKES ME SICK! You scum, you utter sacks of crap, how DARE you DESTROY such a beautiful song with your CHEAP, PLASTIC TURD!!

[IMG] I actually thought that song was bad before blue did it :shake:

Most of blues songs are good though - my Bestfriends sister went to see it with her cousin and mother - she now refuses to let the shirt be washed  she doesn't wear it at least

    :( I like Eminem

What you like is a manner of taste. If you like Punk, people shouldn't criticize you for listening to "pointless crap". If you enjoy the way Britney Spears sings (and you honestly do), then listen to her. So what if she's unpopular.

Music is a manner of preference.

Being "mainstream", "alternative", "hardcore" should in no way give you bias towards music. If you like it, then go listen to it. There is no reason to listen to someone with completely different tastes.

Oh god don't get me started on Garage. It spawns horrid, little rudeboys who put on fake rapper accents and ponce around with their hood up. They just don't realize how sad they look. And when I see guys over 18 doing it, along with their... 'crew' I just want to laugh.

*We are the cheeky girls, we are the cheeky girls. You are the cheeky boys, you are the cheeky boys. Touch my bum, it is nice...* :shake:

Yo, lay off the R&B, because if all the R&B you've ever heard is on the radio, you're missing out on a lot, and I personally don't listen to the radio because 99% of it is pure b.s.

Nelly and Britney drive me nuts, and so does Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and a lot of others.

I like a lot of music, ranging from LotR OST to powermetal. But I just seem to loathe a lot of trance, and about 50% of what MTV has to offer. Rap isn't my style, though there are some exceptions.

I judged each by song, not genre. I know bands of styles I love, who make crappy songs, and bands of styles I loathe, make great songs...

Except for Moby, I've hated all his stuff sofar. :D

It's pointless to even argue about something like that, because music you hear on major radio/tv chanells is made for people who consume, not enjoy music. Hence it isn't music, it isn't an artistic form. It's not worth the time of anyone interested in music.
Simple as that, I didn't say nothing new...

I do have to say that, while I normally dislike the majority of rap songs, there is one group that I'm beginning to like. Outkast. For some reason, I really like every song I've heard by them, and their songs tend to send a message of some kind, instead of just "Hey, I'm hot and sexy and have lots of money and women, so you should think I'm the greatests. And I do lots of drugs."

I'm with Ezellohar and Apeman on the Britney thing. Her songs are not very creative; in fact, if you've studied music at all, some are harmonically the same!

Also, a comedy group I saw on Just for Laughs actually sang two of her songs simultaneously to the same tune! It was so funny (since it was in the comedy festival afterall), and I was thinking: at last, someone has publicly displayed how much her songs resemble each other.

Hmm, music, music, music. I like a lot of stuff, but being a child of the new age, there are gonna be some things that I love and y'all hate. Like, I love rock, including Bizkit, though, I lost a lot of respect for them when Wes left. I'm into Nickelback and Alien Ant Farm as of late though. And just because some may think that they just bang on stuff, if you actually listen to the lyrics, you'll get the meaning of the song.

Rap. Hmm.....it's alright. I don't listen to that hardcore gangsta rap though, but I like Eminem. P. Diddy's alright, he's still sprung on J-Lo though, he just needs to settle on a name real quick. Speaking of J-Lo, don't like her, and she's got some issues, real ones.

I hate Britney Spears, I hate her, I hate her, I hate her, I hate her. You give New Orleans a bad name, you silicone wench you! You're not even from New Orleans!! You're from some no-name town that's like way across the lake! From New Orleans, blah! Liar. Fake-bourgie liar!

Let's see, what else? Christina has singing talent, really, she does. That new song of hers, "Beautiful" is a wonderful song. Only problem is that she's gorgeous. She has no business singing that song. That and the fact that none of these teeny boppers like to wear whole articles of clothing. Heh. Just wait until you age, baby! Those boobies will sag real fast!!!! :demonic:

I know I'm gonna get jumped on, but I like Justin Timberlake, now that he's out of 'NSync. He's just better, don't know why, really. Love his latest song, "Cry me a river." You know he's singing about that witch, Britney. And she swears she's a virgin! Liar!! I know that if I was dating Justin Timberlake, I wouldn't be one coming out of that relationship. Ah well, I've ranted enough.

C'Jakob, just because people don't like there music to be bagged out doesn't mean that we shouldn't bag out there music. We are, after all, voicing a common opinion.

Something I hate is how a lot of punk now is slowly turning so it closly resembles pop. The horror of it all!

Lots of rap sucks, but there is some (often it seems, mixed with nu metal) that actually has point to it. But I don't feel like getting too deep into that argument right now.

Brittany must burn! As must all that do, look and sing like her! oh, whoops, we just destroyed most of the people on the charts, what will we do?

    Rejoyce!

Not to flame you here, but really, Justin Timberlake?!

IMHO that voice of his is really squeeky and weird and those stupid dancemoves of his, I just can't stand it.
