On behalf of non-inflamatory Canadians, I would like to apologize for this post.

While we may have our differences of opinion (and we do), and while the post in question may touch on some of the reasons for these differences, there is absolutely nothing to be accomplished by the sarcastic nature of that post. Benanthalin, the next time you decide to take it upon yourself to speak upon behalf of Canadians, please check with the rest of us first (and yes, I mean all of us).

I actually thought it was pretty funny, but that's just me.

And shouldn't this be in SS? Dunno for sure.

Yeah, Benanthalin. Or at least say something like "Here's something funny I found. Oh, and we don't really mean it" next time. Or, if you do mean it, speak for yourself.

I thought it was very funny because it showed his own stupidity, not Benanthalin, the guy who wrote it... when it makes me feel better about myself more power to ya!

    Whatnots works.

Maybe I should of put the little thing saying it was from Rick Mercer from This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

It was meant as joke people. I'm not some constant America basher, I don't agree with alot of things Bush is doing now, but aside from that I don't really care about the U.S of A.

And Splunge, I'm not going to ask permission to post stuff, we're not living in 1930's-40's Germany.

[IMG] I personally thought the post was quite amusing. I see no reason at all for any sort of apology. It was obviously posted with the intention of eliciting a chuckle, and not with the intent of offending all of our american friends. Hell, if you want to apologize on behalf of all americans for a good natured rib, then maybe one of the americans can apologize on behalf of his country for the many times that americans (well... everybody I suppose) pokes fun at the French and their obvious skill in the arts of combat, just to take one example. He's not making some stupid obvious anti-american post like "america sux, canada rulz, lolololol". It's a joke, and if it offends you, then you're obviously taking it much more seriously then it was intended.

Sheesh, lighten up a bit, people. He obviously didn't mean it maliciously. It's just not the way us canadians work . We're supposed to be polite and boring. ;)

[IMG] The first post fit into Whatnots, and since it was just closed, this one fits in here just as much as it's relevant to the first. So, again, Velve Zauviir, stop trying to moderate. Yet again you are wrong, and leading more people to believe you. If a post needs moving, we will move it. And we will *know* when it really needs to be moved.

If you're not sure about some post, PM me or BTA and we'll tell you if it needs moving, or why it does not.

Wow... and I thought it was I who was the local hollier-than-thou

Which to the whole lot of us shows your immense wisdom.

@Reepnorp: it was perfectly apparent that he was joking. Actually it was even explicitly noted.

Joke is joke. There was no such fuss about the 'France... the military powerhouse' thread or any similar thread, where American people weren't the target and actually some of them participated quite actively. Benanthalin's post wasn't remotely as unhealthy as the reactions it produced. Calling yourself non-iflammatory as opposed to himself by a simple process of sylogism implies that he is inflammatory, which is not yet calling names, but most certainly personal rather than pertaining to the subject. Question arises: who is a saint now?

Another thing is that it was the Brits who burnt the White House in 1812. Canada was granted dominion status in 1867 :D

    Message over.

Here's what I'll do. I'll apologize to Talutain and the other mods/admins for causing grief, but I won't apologize for posting it. Nor will I will apologize to the patriotic americans it offended or the "Non Inflamatory" Canadians that feel it was out of taste.

I didn't think it would cause such a disturbance, it was a funny little thing my friend sent me.

Chevalier is right by all means. Except it was a Canadian militia who burned down the White House in the brief war of 1812 between the Republic of Canada and the United States. We didn't burn it down when we were an actual country as you stated.

This "war" between USA and Canada really reminds of the South Park movie. They were also fighting :D

I was just joking around also, sorry. Taluntain, Chevalier, Benanthalin I'm sorry. The post was quite funny, a had the good laugh out of it.

: yot: About France, aren't they trying to go neutral though... It would seem so to me because on my trip to France, one of our French guides gave us some reasons about the neutrality when we were passing the French Military Academy.

That definitely would have helped. However, it’s not that I actually thought you didn’t mean it as a joke; the points on hockey, beer and the White House were harmless and quite funny. Even the other points, taken in isolation, were amusing. The reason for my original post (and the reason I thought your post was inflamatory) was that, given what has been happening in the AoDA recently, some American members might interpret your post as more “American-bashing” (and based on a couple of replies to your post, they apparently did); I think the fact that Tal closed your topic suggests that he recognized the possibility of such an interpretation. So to me, it’s more a problem of unfortunate (and probably unintentional) timing on your part.

I meant only if you are posting on behalf of all Canadians. And I wasn’t being serious; I just said it as a way of suggesting that you think twice before you post (or all least how you post). Which is not to suggest that I think I’m perfect; I’m far from it.

You are; I’m just trying to give you a run for your money :p

Alright, so I think we’re all clear now. Benanthalin obviously wasn’t being a jerk in his topic, and my post was simply recognizing what has been going on lately in the Alley. So, how about if we get on to more important things, like killing evil monsters? :)
