i bought the "ulmtimate boxset" of the BG series.. but if i install TotSC and try to play it i get a retarded error message that it's only for US and Canada, now i bought the game in australia, and it was the australian release so wtf is up with that, i took it back to the store and got a new boxset.. same problem, i contacted bioware and they werent interested, surely it cant just be my bad luck, someone else has to have had this problem before? i hope.. anyway i've tried everything short of reinstalling windows and was hoping someone could offer a solution i probably havent thought of yet to get this to work, i'd hate to think i spent good money on a legit copy that wont ever work.. any ideas?

The "problem" lies in Windows regional settings. It's telling BG that you're in Australia instead of US/Canada.

    You can try two things:
    1. Change your regional settings to US/Canada then install BG and TotSC. This may not work if you have an Australian version of BG,
    2. Install BG, then change your regional settings and install TotSC.

I'd try the second option first since it won't require a reinstall of BG.

As for where the regional settings are, I haven't the foggiest though I would suggest looking in the Control Panel.

Not knowing for sure where you looked, I can only suggest the following:
Go to Start Menu-Control Panel-Regional and Language Options. Should open an options box. At the top you can change the time/money format. At the bottom you have the choice of changing the location. Try the US.

If this doesn't work, you may have to attempt to find an Australian version of TotSC. I assume the released such a version to accompany BG.

And if Tal wouldn't yell at me, I'd yell at you for desiring a Mac back. :D

Do as Alehldean wrote, the region is completely defineable in Windows, and changing it works. I've had the same issue myself, only with different regions, and changing them did the trick.

I had exactly the same problem. Well, almost, US-version of BG and TotSC, German system. Changing Windows-settings didn't help at all. Strangely as it may sound installing the official TotSC-patch eliminated the irritating issue. Give it a try.
