What do you like on Thanksgiving?

Yes, here is another Holiday thread, but I want to know what do you, for those who celebrate it, and your family eat on Thanksgiving?

We have the obvious traditions at my house: fried turkey (16 pounds!) honey baked ham, cranberry sauce, fruit salad consisting of mayo apples and raisens, candied yams , sweet potato, apple, and pecan pie, green beans, okra, squash, and just about any kind of casserole you can think of.

Whatever my mother decides to cook. Always at least 1 turkey, a chicken, generally, cranberry sauce, multiple dressings, all that traditional stuff. Sometimes the people who come bring their own stuff. Also, way way way too many pies for the people to eat.

Sometimes I wonder just what we'd be eating if it was a bunch of Frenchmen at the table, rather than Pilgrims...

Anyways, I'd have some turkey, and some single-malt Scotch Wiskey. The actual procurement of said bottle is on my to-do list for tomorrow. I'll let it age in my freezer for 3 days.

 

Age it in a freezer? huh

 

Not to get all mushy like your Aunt Betty's stuffing-the food may be great, but it's being with the family that makes it worthwhile.

 

What is Thanksgiving? Is it a semi-religious event?

 

No, just an American tradition. It's the celebration of the meal that the pilgrims ate a year after coming to America. It was one of the few times in our colonial days that colonists and natives didn't shoot at each other.

 

They also didn't shoot each other on "Kill a Frenchman Day."

 

I'll be making the following:
Roast turkey with rosemary gravy
Apple-chestnut stuffing
Honey-glazed yams with ginger
Braised peas and leeks
Cranberry-orange conserve
Green salad
Rolls
Apple-Pumpkin pie

... come one, come all!

 

Is that an apple and a pumpkin pie, or is that a pie with 1 part apple one part pumpkin? Either way it all sounds delish!

 

I hate Thanksgiving. I have to go in the freezing cold wearing short sleeves and fairly tight pants and dance around for a good 3 hours or so at the football game (and I like color guard, why?) -- but I don't even like football. I then get forced to wear a dress -- heh I got out of it this year because we're going straight from the football game to my Aunt's house (where I sit for several hours by myself wriitng poetry). AND I'm allergic to turkey. But I like mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce And it's ok, I guess. I mean, as much as I grumble about it I won't go to college in California because I know I'd miss it. Go figure.

Yum yum yum, I just made half of tomorrow's Thanksgiving feast. I made the chicken and dressing (sage is the perfect touch), the brocolli casserole, and a sweet potato casserole (YUMMY!) Now all that is left is cooking the turkey tomorrow and making the fruit salad.

 

we have turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, cranberry sauce, carrots, stuffing, and double eggs( not to mention all the pies)
