Trouble patching game on XP

    I have installed BG 1 on my XP machine for the first time, and I'm having trouble getting the patch to install. I keep getting a message telling me to go to the control panel. Does anybody know what needs to be done?

    My friend had the same problem a few days back. Turned out he had the International version of the game and was trying to install a U.S. patch. Perhaps this, or the exact opposite is your problem? (have US ver. and trying to patch int.)

    If you have the Original Saga (three discs only) you don't need a patch. I haven't tried to install the 5 CDs version with XP so I don't know if it's a common issue.

    alright I helped someone on two BG forums with this problem and both say Now the game refuses to play... maybe you read the post wrong? I said what my friend was doing was getting the wrong version of the patch and that's why it wouldn't work... Just be sure you are getting the right one.

    I wonder if it's the patches at Bioware. Yesterday I installed BG 2 on the same machine and when I d/l the patch for it I found that it was corrupted. I tried again and got the same thing. So I took the patch off my older Computer and tried it. It worked just fine. I'm going to try the same thing with the patch for BG 1, and see if that works.

    And by the way, I bought mine about a couple of years after the game came out, so it's the six cd set.

    Thinking about it... I've heard of people having trouble getting the patch to work from bioware's site. If it doesn't work for BG1 from your old computer, try getting the patch off of fileplanet or fileshack, I know for a fact their patches work.

    Used the old patch and it worked. Guess there's something wrong with the Biowarwe pathes.
