[IMG] I just had this passing thought. How do soloists kill Sarevok in the final battle? There aren't that many places to run without attracting attention to yourself. I realize some classes can summon help, but what about the other classes? Does a, say, fighter stand a snowball's chance going melee with Sarevok?

Area effect items and spells are the soloist's best friend. I typically play a sneaky solo where I use a lot of Invis. potions, spells, and stealth. If you lob an explosive from maximum range (out of sight of the enemies) and follow it up with a disappearing act, you get free damage on the lot of them.

A plain fighter has a hell of a time with the final battle (melee is a BAD idea), but one thing that can keep you alive is the knowledge that they're all hasted, but don't have any haste spells memorized. A couple of Arrows of Dispelling and you can run faster than they can, providing you wear the Boots of Speed and/or use potions. Run, shoot, run, shoot...you get the idea.

You can also take Angelo out fairly early by summoning some monsters near him and getting out of sight. He'll shoot an Arrow of Detonation at the summons (2 feet away from him  ) and the resulting explosion will not only kill the summons, but also hurt all of your enemies. Sarevok and Tazok will dispatch him in short order.

It really depends on what you're soloing. If you can summon anything, you'll be in much better shape.

I never thought it would be possible to finish BG with a single character. I couldn't finish it alone without a thief to take care of all those traps.

Do you mean like starting with some exported level 9 character?

So either play as a thief variant (T, F/T, M/T, C/T, F/M/T) or just take the hits like a man. ;) Your level goes up a lot quicker without all those pesky party members soaking up the XP. You might want to try an XP cap disabler for maximum effect.

Ok, but still, is it possible to do it starting as level 1? Also, since I'm never using potions (and damn things keep piling up in my inventory), are there any "protection from petrification" potions?

If you're talking about taking on basilisks, there's the Potion of Mirrored Eyes, which will prevent any gaze attacks. There's also a (green) Protection from Petrification scroll that's usable by any class. And yeah, we start at level 1. I've done it several times myself.

There are lots of good potions and arrows for sale in Baldur's Gate :)

If you want to do a solo game, you do need them.... (where you can play a 6 character game without potions if you want to)

And without XP-gap it's not too hard to beat Sarevok solo...
