I'm a big fan of music, I play guitar and sing in a band and I was wondering if anyone else on SP does anything like this. If so, write something about it here, I like to here from my fellow musicians!

[IMG] I play the drums(3 years) and sing backups in a band. I also play the piano(for 10 years now) and take singing lessons, so music is pretty much my life. Good to hear from like-minded people!

I have played the guitar for about 5 years now. I sometimes play together with a few guys from school, and we have preformed a few times in our school.

    @Ursaj,

What sort of things does your band play? The one I'm in plays sort of mellow rock, and a lot of Nirvana.

Hmm, I do vocals, saxophone, flute and the guitar.

And no, not on request, so you can forget about that Master of Nuhn. ;)

We actually play pretty much whatever(well, rock.) We've played songs from The Offspring, Red Hot Chili Peppers(my favourite), Nirvana and others, and we've also started to write our own songs, which are pretty much classified as alternative/funk/hard rock. So pretty much a total mish-mash of stuff. ;)

All through high school and college I sat first chair bassoon in band and orchestra. I marched in both highschool and college playing the saxaphone and percussion. Roll Tide! Million Dollar Band University of Alabama!
Played saxaphone in a jazz combo. I also sang with a big band backing me up! Not even close to being like Bing or Frank though.
I also played bassoon, clarinet, alto sax and baritone saxaphone in a pit orchestra for Oklahoma, Lil Abner, Phantom of the Opera, Guys and Dolls. Also sang in Guys and Dolls and State Fair.
    I also played piano.
I haven't picked up any of those instruments in 5 years or so, but I miss it. Gonna break out the saxaphone again someday.
I do on occassion nowadays play the Native American Flute.

The only thing I've been able to play so far is the flute, for school. I really sucked at it, best mark I ever got was a 7/10, worst about four zeros. So I'll kinda never touch an instrument again... But it would be cool if I could drum actually!

I played bass for a band from about 1988 till just around 2000.We wrote all our own stuff and released around five albums on tape and four on cd.
It was a great experience.Had the chance to play clubs up and down the east coast here in the States.

What's with all the drum people? When you need one, they're no where to be found, or in different countries.

I've been on guitar for 7 years. Had keyboard/organ lessons for a couple of years, 8 years ago, but don't play it much at moment. Really want to be able to play rock, jazz, prog keyboards though.
Taught myself drums about 8 years ago too, but can't afford money/space for a kit. Played a couple of gigs on drums when i borrowed a kit.

Currently learning Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt 2 guitar. Man, that's some of the hardest stuff i've ever played.

I've been playing the piano for 15+ years. All classical though, so the "band" part does not apply to me. Although I have learned a piano concerto before but that's an orchestra, not a band...

Surprisingly I have yet to make a public performance (other than exams), just private ones held by the teacher with her students including me performing. This should be a relief for me (and the public :D ) since I think I suck. The best I've ever gotten in the exams was in the low eighties.

Piano for around 5 years, but I've been on a relative pause for 2 years now. I used to do computerized music as well with all the legendary programs like ST3 and FT2.

I've been playing guitar for 8 or 9 years now... I'm in a band too, http://www.blank-page.tk . I'm just starting to learn how to play the drums too, my hands are covered in blisters, but it's a lot of fun! :p

Simple answer, wear drumming gloves. Better grip, no blisters.

Although, i can't quite figure out how you are getting blisters, as in theory, there is no rubbing of stick on hand. Try a bit more wrist, don't grip the stick too hard, let it bounce a bit and let the stick do the work for you.

I'm not playing anything at the moment, but as soon as my gf and I will get married I think I'll start playing piano. My gf has played piano for 10 years and she is so bloody good!

Well im not a musician, and i almost certainly never will be. I'm partially tone deaf and singing is just a no-no - when i sing i know how i want my voice to sound but i can't get it right. Instruments well i could, if i ever learnt, play one however i wouldn't be able to in a group or along to something. However this doesn't stop me writing lyrics (which i know how they're meant to sound, in me head :1eye: ) just don't make me sing them lol.
