I missed the El Nino one and the location of Sweden (I could have looked it up but that would have been cheating), but got all the rest. Interesting that for every country that you were asked to find on the map, 3% of that countries population could not identify their own land. What DO they teach these kids in school?

 

Got two wrong: El Nino and Afghanistan. Funny how I can spell it but not find it on a map.

I can't believe how most Americans got the map questions wrong. Couldn't people just use the process of elimination?

 

Just did that test a month or two back on a forum of my home-country. Most of the people I know got 20/20, including me. The test is stupidly made even, as the options are ridiculous. Take the "spot this country on the map" type for example. Even if you didn't know, you can pretty much guess where any one country is located, and as every other option probably are somewhere on the other side of the world, it isn't hard to go for the lucky guess and pick the only country that is even near for example Europe.

 

20/20 Way too easy.

20/20 here too. How can someone not know where the Pacific Ocean is?.....the whole thing is very sad.

 

19 out of 20. The religion question got me. I thought that Budhism (sp?) was the largest religion, should have known it being a political scientist slightly above the age category (29...).

The numbers of people that didn't know all questions didn't suprise me. A large portion of the population in most western countries (at least in Western Europe) are more or less ignorant of the world outside of the small bubble they live in. Some people just don't care where other countries are or what happens there, as long as there own little world is undisturbed.

Some years ago in a travelprogram om TV in the Netherlands the makers of the program visisted Dutchies in the country where they where on their holidays. They had to point on a map of Europe the country they where currently in and most of these people pointed at countries not even near to the one they where in....

Got 'em all correct, and I am below the age category... reminds me of the exams we had when I was in elementary school.

I guess it says something about the Finnish school system... (Da Best in Da World.. it's official... )

It made me do a little research. I say holy whoppings! The test is made rediculously easier on the net. Check out the pdf file for the "mark this country" in the real survey.

National geographics are some manipulating con artists. Crips!

EDIT;
Try and take some time to figure out why the test is much harder in the paper way. It may not be as obvious as I thought. Though most of you say you have an IQ above average, so I'll wager that you spot the trick easily.

The highlight of this survey is the question "Which country is Sweden?"

The Swedes are apparently the only people who know.

 

I knew where it was . Although I am impressed with the level of education in Scandinavia, I think I'll move there to send Jack to school, Britain has gone to the dogs. I did hear that everything in Scandinavia is really expensive though, and I'd have to see the job market too.

 

good work ratings and expensive cargas... but it is pretty cheap after all... i am from Sweden...

 

Some Norwegians know where Sweden is, too; we regularly go there to buy stuff, like cheap booze

And about that test; El Nino's not a car?! Well, it should be!

 

I feel ashamed by the apparent stupidity of the UK entrants. It seems Geography is no longer taught in schools and people can't be bothered to read the news or even dig out an atlas to see where their latest package holiday is based

I only did basic geography (pre 14 year old) and still scored 19 out of 20. The religion question threw me. As a few others have said, I thought Islam was the biggest (do they count the 500M or so people in Europe who are not religious but still put 'Christian' on surveys anyway)?

 

A few of those I wouldn't have got, had I not played Risk recently It really helps your geography
