"football (american of course)" -what? read the mass of posts above.

as for "honest emotion" in the skating... have you noticed the fake smiles on the faces of EVERY competitor when they see their scores? now, if one of them burst out crying on getting a poor mark -that would be honest emotion!

 

Christopher_lee: try to back up your stupid claims with some evidence. Saying you think it is shit is fine. lots of people don't like cricket, but comparing it to British social order is just plain stupid. Everybody on this board knows from september ast year that if anyone makes stupid irrisponsible and idiotic claims it would be me. But i forgive you, you are new after all.

Cricket is good but it doesn't flow enough for me.
Needless to say American Football is rubbish, i have given it a chance before but i just thought it was one long advertising campaign mixed in with ego ridden players and five second moments of rather wimpish action. You see American footballers think they are tough, but in England Rugby players play a equally violent game with no padding and don't make a fuss at all. Those American footballers are just woopsies if you ask me. (yes i do play rugby)

Baseball is the best thing ever to cme out of America. God i love that game.

Curling is brill especially when the British Women's team win!

Equestrian is not something t be laughed at, I can bet my last pound (english currency) that no person on this board who has never ridden would have anywhere near the right strength and muscle build up to steer a half ton horse with just his thighs. You have no idea how difficult it is to make a horse do dressage. Well actually they d it themselves it just takes five years of training, 5 hours a day every day. I know i have lived my life around horses and am quite cometant myself. if you think Equestrian is pointless then you get on a horse and you try it!

 

horse riding = physically demanding = tones muscles = equals tight buttocks = good sport to watch.

No, the most annoying event is Race Walking - in summer olympics. How incredibly stupid is that event?

 

Football. American Football.

 

The dumbest sport I can think of is the Steeple Chase - equestrian event but with people! It looks so ridiculous watching them run through the water, climb over the jumps, hop over a bush, etc.

As for some of the other comments: sport doesn't necessary mean physically demanding. Fishing is great sport - if you like it. Figure skaters are extremely talented (not a big fan, but I wouldn't put it down) - how many people here would be able to jump, glide, even lift, throw and then catch another person, on skates! Curling is about technique, skill and strategy. American football is..well...it's American: big, flashy, slow...but it takes strength, power, and skill (also not a fan of american football). And about cricket - it's also played by a billion Indians, a quarter billion Indonesians, Caribbeans, Australians, etc, etc...upper class?

Oh yeah, I just love when they put cricket ahead of football on World Sport for the sake of West Indies and Pakistan!

BTW, football was made up in England long before American football was invented, and it was named football. Which makes sense, since you cannot touch the ball with your hands. Of course Americans had to be special and call it soccer.
And why do they call A. football like that; the plays are made by hands!

 

Actually it was a Brit that coined the term soccer, at one of the public schools, to be a contraction of association, in a similar way that rugby was referred to as rugger. Early American football (as in association) competitions refered to it as football before American football came to the fore.

 

I have to join the choire, american football must be the most stupid sport if you dont reckon with the thousands of small local sports that can be real silly.

I mean do they actually play anythin in A.Football? They just stand in a huddle for 10 min, then they line up smash into eachother and and after 10 seconds of brawling the whistle blow and they go to commercials for another 10 min. Once in a while some fast dude gets lucky and gets the ball and run like hell and maybe is able to toss the ball to the ground.
I agree with Dargon if you want a tough hard sport, play rugby thats a sport for real men, no sissy protections or steroids either.

the main reason i hate it is that they keep having to stop it every few seconds- no fluidity.

 

The thing I find is boring is golfing. My dad golfs and when I'm sometimes with him, all I see is that you whack the ball into a hole that's about 2 inches in circumference. I fell asleep after about 5 minutes, since it's winter here, you don't get to hear the word "fore" or that you don't get to see them screw up because there is a net and not a hole.

If you like American football, or if you don't, watch rugby.. What a brutal game, woo! I don't play myself, but it's so much more exciting to watch then football.. pffa!

 

The worst sport would probably have to be figuare skating but I do believe it takes alot of talent. The best is hockey. Hockey rules. My team won our playoffs today hell yes.

so far i have picked up: two cracked ribs, a fracture above my left eye, two scars on my arms and a dislocated shoulder! yey! now that is what i call a sport!
And to think you pansey american football players think you are tough! ha!
