Hi, I want to install Baldur's Gate and it's expansion pack again. I need to know what mods or other stuff that I could use to make my experience a little better and easier. Patches, mods, cool stuff etc! Thanks. :)

    Easier:
    Ease-of-Use (esp. the stacking component)

    Better:
:jawdrop: What could possibly be better than BG1!?! ;) www.blackwyrmlair.net makes some great mods, and pretty much anything on this page is decent or better.

    Better, eh?

Try new class combos. Use NPCs you normally wouldn't go near with a 10-foot rusty halberd. Play evil. Kill Drizzt in the most humiliatingly cheesy fashion imaginable, with a party of level-one nobodies. Try playing solo (use an FMT if you're a bit wary). Try using the tomes on NPCs to create bizarre dual-classed characters, such as Necromancer/Cleric Xzar. Try playing a party of all spellcasters (Rangers don't count!). Any of these, I find, can liven the game up a bit.

Oh, I forgot to mention... I'm pretty much of a newbie to the old CRPG games (NWN got me curious to the older ones) and I find BG1 to be the hardest to play. The last time I tried to play it I ended up getting bored because I didn't know where to go or what to do, heh! I want to play through the game because it seems really awesome.

www.blackwyrmlair.net doesn't work. I even googled the site and tried to enter from there but no luck.
Also, stuff that enchances the game and fixes some bugs would be cool too. :)

 I forgot, BlackWyrmLair is down for a little while. :o

And if you're looking for bug fixes (and exploit fixes), www.baldurdash.org is the way to go. But if you just don't know where to go or what to do (or if you're just having trouble with a particular battle), don't hesitate to ask on the forums. Answering (and sometimes even asking  ) questions like that is what we're here for. Welcome to the club, CheezDoodleS.

Thank you! I've been downloading fixes and updates from various sites, including Baldurdash. I got the ease-of-use too and stuff. I might install BG1 and Tales right now! I wont be able to play much tonight though.

    Edit!
So I installed the ToSC UK patch and it worked. Then I installed:
    BG1FixPack11 - This worked
    BG1TOSCGameTextUpdate11 - This worked
    BG1-ease - This worked

    Then I found this:
    BGTalesDX8English

First I installed a BGMAIN2.exe in the default folder, Program Files. I realized my mistake and put it in the main game directory. Then for some reason I used the installer again... this time in the game directory. I had a BGMain.exe now and a BGMain2.exe in the game folder. So I decided to use the Baldur.exe file to start the game. It gave me a "This version will only run on English language operating systems!"
The only option was ok so I clicked that. I deleted both of them and when I click on the play button nothing happens.

    Did I screw up royally?

Ah yes, the famous "regional setting limitation". You can solve this by changing your "regional settings" (Control Panel) to United States.

But... which files exactly did you delete? If you deleted both BGmain files, then you can no longer do anything without reinstalling the game.

I also like to install the 'dudley' fixes www.dudleyville.com - hey, anything to limit the cheat(exploiting) possibilities - seriously, there are some adjustments, that make sense to me... ;) :)

Hi, I also want to know what the ideal "roleplay" party would be, ie I do know I want Imoen (Pc's best friend, my PC is a Thief btw), Jaheira and Khalid (Gorion's friends and good characters) and I am currently using Montaron and Xsar to investigate Nashkel's troubles. Now, when the mines part is finished I'm going to get rid of these two. Perhaps I will get Minsc and Dynaheir later? I really want to finish Minsc's rescue quest too. I think Kivan sounds pretty interesting but I'm unsure when he shows up. Any ideas?

I am completely both series with the following...

    Imoen
    Jaheria
    Minsc
    Edwin
    Viconcia

The last two maybe evil but Viconcia and Edwin to me are the best cleric and mage in the bg series.

    @CheezDoodleS:
If you really want to RP your party, you should go with Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, and Dynaheir. They're the ones that BG2 assumes you had been traveling with at the end of BG1.

I've got a mod question myself: Do the NPC Remix and FotD mods work together ? If yes, in what order whould I install them ? I've already installed the BaldurDash MultiFix Pack and ToSC GameTextFix Pack. Will that cause any problems ?

Remix and FotD are completely incompatible, sorry. If you do the Remix first and FotD second, it'll simply overwrite my files; if you do FotD first and Remix second, mine will just overwrite theirs, which could even cause bugs if there's connectivity issues. I'm afraid you'll have to pick one or the other. :o

Or, alternatively, you could just install FotD and try to duplicate the changes of the Remix with Gatekeeper yourself. I think I laid out everything I did in the Readme, so it shouldn't be that hard if you want to try that route unless GK doesn't work with FotD.

Ookay. How about for a vanilla run (minimal modification to the game engine and item stats) ? Will the Remix work with the BaldurDash FixPack and TextFix ?

Perfectly, I believe. Vanilla runs are what it's meant for. :)
