[IMG] So, I'm at work, I'm getting ready to post something, and I have a disagreement over something with my boss. It had nothing to do with the internet, believe me. Next thing I know, my resignation I gave weeks ago and six weeks in advance has now been accepted as immediate! I still get paid until the day I claimed as a resignation/last day, but no more work! I don't know how to feel about it. I start law school in a month, I guess I should get used to these kinds of things.

I don't know if I should condsider this a win or a loss, my immediate resignation relieves me of my initial problem (the one I was arguing with my boss about, mainly scheduling changes and other issues revolving around moving and starting school) but I don't get to have a cool party when I leave! Oh well. I asked for everything in writing, so if they don't pay me, it'll be on!

Orkrist - As an almost member of the profession you wish to join...COngratulations on getting in! I've really enjoyed Law School, even though it's a grueling experience!

As for the work thing...I hate to say it, but get used to it. I had a somewhat similar experience when I began law school.

I had a pretty decent work schedule when I started school. ABout 2 months in (after I told my company I needed to keep my current schedule) I was moved to head up a different department with later hours. When I explained the situation, I was told that when you reach the level of responsibility I had, one must make choices. I did.

After that meeting, I sent my resume to a few other companies. I was contacted by a headhunter about 3 days later with a preliminary offer from a competitor. During the negotiations, I asked for specific hours, vacation time, salary and level. If they were unable to meet my requests, I asked them to please not waste my time.

They agreed to my terms (in hindsight, I should have asked for much more! :D). I worked at this company until two months ago. When I decided to go full time and graduate in December....WHich is quickly approaching!!!

So my advice - Make school the top priority! Wherever you go to make $$ in the interim, negotiate hard to get everything up front, and when it suits you to leave...Go! And don't look back!

Well, that's my two cents. DOn't worry too much! If you need outlines for classes, let me know! I've kept all of mine.

[IMG] Sir Belisarius- what kind of work have you been doing and what kind of law do you want to practice? I've been working in mental health until now, and pretty much since I left undergrad. I speak French and German, (and English!) and I always say I want to pursue International law, but I have no idea what I'll do yet. I'm pretty excited about getting started.

All else, thanks for the replies. Now, back to BG2...

Right now I'm helping victim services in representing battered women in Protection From Abuse cases. It's a good cause, and I am getting good litigation experience.

I plan to go into Corporate or Business Law. Most of my professional experience is in Banking, Finance and Operations in the Banking industry.

I've thought about International Law...I speak Russian and French (and a little English :D)

[IMG] Right on Sir B. I've been working with severely abused youth in treatment for quite a while, I don't know if I will become involved in that on a legal end or not, but to get litigation/trial experience your route sounds good. I've heard of others doing similar things for experience, and because its a good use of skills, too.
My background is in philosophy and psych, both grad levels, so apart from political economics I've been clueless as to the workings of the financial world, until these days that is.

Are you in the US? Where did you learn Russian?
    Talk to you later.

[IMG] Orkrist - Yep! I'm in the US...East Coast. Delaware to be exact.

I took Russian in college and spent a few months in St. Petersburg and Moscow my senior year! It was fantastic! There's no better way to learn a language than being thrown into the culture. I picked it up pretty fast!

Good luck with school man. Business Law has always been one of my favorite subjects in college. But it's just not for me..for some reason I can't seem to remember all the laws at times ;)
