Some advice i found in a writers magazine is to try to write something everyday whatever it is. I try to do this most days and it does seriously improve your work.

 

I ama wannabe author aas well,a nd I am planning on getting a "real job" and writing on the side until I get my big hit. I know I will.

YOu do so as well. Get a job, something to do with writing, perhaps, like someone said, or something elseyou like and that will pay the bills. Then, write on the side until you hit the jackpot.

I am not saying anything anyone else has not said yet, but practise makes perfect, yes?

I personally use fan fiction as a practise device. There are so many fan fictions in the net, that I have ran into all levels of competency in the authorship, and learned more than I could have ever imagined.
I read more fan fic thatn I write, but I do write some...

I suggest reading the works of amateur writers. Then you will learn what NOT to do.

This has all been very helpful and I thank you all for your advice. One last Question. How would I go about getting something published once I have written it?

 

Well published on internet is relatively easy - just look around for some sites (fanfic ones often have original content sections for non fanfic stories).

Real life is rather harder - enter competitions and maybe if your good you'll get into top 5 or so and get published in whatever the competition was. If your feeling like you've got a lot of time on your hand get some phone books and start phoning or writing letters (shows you can write lol) to publishers or publishing companies etc.

Chances of getting published is what makes becoming a succesful author. Also if you want some evaluation you could drop it onto creativity surge here and someone will, hopefully, tell you what they think.

Well that's my two cents.
