[IMG] True indeed. However this does not alter the fact that FR is not the only campaign setting, and the default dwarven ladies don't have beards :)

Read the explanation in the Arcanum manual. Very qualified guess IMO. Something like the males outnumber the females 3-to-1. So they are very protective of their women.

I don't know anything about where the dwarves hold up there women, or there mating rituals/habits, but I do know that in the FR, MOST dwarven women have beards. There are many cases of mentioning this, but most noteably is the character Bruenor Battlehammer from R.A. Salvatores Drizzt books. I think it was him who said "You need a good woman with beard ye can hang onto!" Please excuse me if I am wrong. But there is also the case of the dwarf in Elaine Cunningham's Elfsong who has no beard. Hmmmmm. Where is Ed Greenwood when you need em?

Durothil that quote is from the Dwarf in the D&D movie. Bruneor on the other hand tells Catabrie that if she grew a beard she would like real pretty, like a dwarven girl. This just shows the FR male dwarves like girls with chin hair

Whoops, my bad. Are there any other cases when dwarves talk about their women with chin hair? What about that character in elfsong?

There is no such thing as a female dwarf. They are simply crossdressing men. Yes dwarves are as gay as Elton John and that guy out of South Park(think his name is Big Gay Al).

I don't know about that one. Gimli seemed *slightly* attracted to Gladriel (whatever) in the book. I think he would have gone after it, had she not already had a mate.

But I'll go with the other question. Just where the heck *are* the female dwarves? They sure as heck aren't in Moria, and the only one I've ever heard of was in the Easthaven pub...

Heh. I read on some Tolkien page that Aule as meant to have created the seven fathers of the dwarves - and only six mothers of the dwarves, which must have left one of the seven fathers feeling pretty annoyed.

Oh yeah. And then there was 'Fengula' down in the Deep.

I think Dwarves just don't have racial prejudices. That's why we don't hear about dwarf chicks. All dwarves are gigglios.

    Sexperts?

Very funny Duro. Using what I have heard/read to elaborate into a good answer {{Possibly adding to the investigation, I hope}} I say that Dwarves are not gay, they have to have mates to continue their dwindling population. Oh sure, you elf fans would like to nail the dwarves for something that's actually relatively serious, wouldn't you? We know that Dwarves are really a secluded race, not normally living in homes or towns but Karak(s), or mountains. They simply would not desire their race to become even minutely matriarchal, thus they keep a firm grasp over the lives and character of their wives, already few in number. We know also that they (dwarves) highly praise themselves on their masculine {{NOT manly, damn the humies}} ways, and lets face it, no dwarf wife is gunna go kill a dragon or demon. To end on a weak note I say that I am surprised that no one here has ever heard of a "dwarven bar-MAID". By the way, whoever used Tolkien as an aide in the argument, well, good job, frankly. Very good call in using an expert. Well, sorry to take up so much room/time, and thanks for listening to the ramblings of a huge dwarf fan! In conclusion, dwarves are NOT gay, and anyone who flirts with the idea has a couple screws loose in his fantasy loving mind. Thank you.

I slay me...literally, my katana is sharp :D
