A brilliant film! Yet another one to add to the list of reasons why ridley scott should have been given Lord of the Rings!

btw on the subject was it just my imagination or was the newbie in the film who fell near the beggining legolas from lotr?

Wow. A Brit liked it? And here I ws just told in the chat room that it was unbearably pro-American.

I saw it last night. Amazing. They didn't cave to political correctness and they didn't make it all look pretty and perfect.

[IMG] I like Ridley Scott, although George Lucas is still my favorite.

I heard Ewan McGregor is in Black Hawk Down. I also heard it was good at portraying how war really is. I look forward to seeing this movie.

    Edit: Did I hear?

Let me tell you, if it is Star Wars, I have heard.

They were shot as extras in the movies. Extras. There are tons of extras in Star Wars movies, the majority of them masked. People are getting way too upset over this for nothing. It's not like you're going to be able to pick them out in the film, without prior knowledge. All movies have quirks in them. The Wizard of Oz had a freakin' dead man hanging from a tree in the background of one of its scenes. I bet even Black Hawk Down has some little eccentricities to it. Why do you think DVD's are so popular?

eah Ewan megregor is in it. the only problem with the film is that you have so many characters that you don't know what the hell is going on most of the time

[IMG] Hey big b speaking of george lucas did you hear he was thinking of putting Nsync in his next film :almostmad: :nolike: and when people heard about this they wrote letters to him stating that he shouldn't and then the saturday night live skit made it worse. They picked on george by immatating Nsync in the movie  . So then thats when george really got creamed with letters. So nows he probably not going to put them in (thank god I can see the movie now and see a bunch of homo's sing and dance). I gotta admit I lost a little of respect for him for thinking of such a retarted idea. :hmm:

It wasn't a retarded idea. He wanted to please his daughters, who, incidently, like N'Sync. So he wanted to put them in the movie, but due to the massive public outcry. That, or it was designed to generate publicity for the movie.

I believe, Shralp, that you are referring to me. I admit, I said that based on a review a person wrote, as he said that it was similar to Behind Enemy Lines (which I have watched). Plus, I made that comment in reference to Behind Enemy Lines, not Black Hawk Down.

However, now, after watching it, I feel that while it did contain the pro-American 'spirit' in large numbers, it was an extremely good movie and I look forward to seeing it again. Even if they didn't include some facts that made certain other countries more 'heroic'.

BTW, when did it open in the US? Here, in Malaysia, it opened on the 17th

    /me shrugs

[IMG] On Black Hawk Down. I am definately gonna watch what Ridley Scott makes. Something intense always comes out of him.

Star Wars; Ewan McGregor Sucked. All of the actors sucked. They showed the most unispired acting I have seen in a long time. In a long long time.

[IMG] Yes, the solider who fell out of the chopper was played by Orlando Bloom, the actors who plays our favorite Elf in Lotr.

For Black Hawk Down in general a good but gretty movie. I'm not sure if I would see it again. That much violance is not needed except to draw a vivid picture of war. Once you get the point - the film like war in general is just too painful to go through again. But I do recommand you see it once. I still like LotR better. It has more re-watch value.

Sigh... the second time killed it. The movie sucks, IMHO. It is enjoyable, but it fails on many levels. First, they didn't explain to the viewers much. Why did the Somalians turn on the Americans who came as friends? The movie didn't tell us that.

Second, the Somalians are potrayed as people bent on the destruction of the Americans, it almost seems like they have no feelings or emotions, and devoid of customs and such.

Thirdly, Hollywood's 'selective amnesia'. This is very apparent in this movie. In the movie, the Americans save themselves. But really, in truth, reinforcements from the UN that helped save the day. A number of troops died that day, including Malaysians, in helping the Americans. Not showing that in the movie to make them more 'heroic' just plain pisses me off.

    There, just my two cents.

    [IMG] IMHO this movie rocked!

I watched the actual story on the history channel and you would not believe how exact the movie is. They showed the soldiers who were there and survived, and let them tell the story. It was even uncanny how much the real people looked like the actors in the movie or, I mean vice versa.

Anyway, I could never watch it again, because it was gut and heart renching. And because I can identify with some of the kinds of things they went through.

But, I definetly give it thumbs up!

Rhythm, I certainly got the impression that the UN troops saved the Americans by bringing in the armor. They did only mentioned the Pakistanis, though.

And because it's told from the American point of view, it's not surprising that others aren't as well fleshed out. They did portray Aristid's warriors as praying toward Mecca at sunrise and sunset (which the books says they did not do).

It was also pretty clear why people were fighting the Americans. The US launched the mission to get rid of him. Those Somalis who weren't part of Aristid's army were happy that the UN was there.

The UN troops actually did a lot more than that, they fought hard to get the Americans out. But in the movie the only Malaysian i saw was a guy with a funny moustache who looked like a new york cab driver and left the super fit American rangers to run all the way back to camp with their SAWs and radiosets. Right.

I haven't seen the movie yet....but I did see the 2 hour special on the "true story" of Black Hawk Down on the History Channel. IF you have the History Channel in your area I would strongly reccomend watching it. From what I have read and heard, the movie is very true to real events.
