    "Whose bike is that?"
    "It's not a bike! It's a chopper!"
    "A helicopter?"
    "No, a chopper!"
    "Ok, whose chopper is that?"
    (Shows keyring)
    "Z? Who's Zed?"
    "Not Zed, it's Zee!"
    "Who's Zee?"
    "Zee's dead, baby, Zee's dead."

[IMG] Just because *you* find it easy doesn't mean the British are fools for using the original spelling for things.

I have heard some English say Zee just as I've seen some Americans say Zed.

From whom do they not descend? :D

Speaking about descend: Long live King James!

This reminds me I haven't been listening to 'Roses of Prince Charlie' for too long.

Anyway, 'Zed' is correct no matter what seems easier.

[IMG] Hey the only reason the spelling has been changed for words is so that people can easier read them and spend less time trying to figure out how to spell them IMO. Spellings for morons perhaps? :p

Zed, of course. Hey, they called that MIB guy Zed, not Zee.

Hmm, better at spelling? I don't think so.

Boy oh boy. No wonder "Z" is the last letter in the alphabet. Think about what it would be like for the little children to be arguing how to sing it if was the first letter. :shake:

Bloody 'ell you invented it, ya brigand. English is a language that is almost entirely comprised of rough cognate transitions from older languages like Latin, Greek, and French. Virtually every major language on earth has contributed words and pronunciation changes. Finnish[sauna], Japanese [tycoon], French, Latin, Native American[armadillo], you name it, it's contributed. How did the English all you brits know and love come to be? Adaptation of pronunciation and the introduction of new words. In case you forgot, there was a major schism in the british empire oh, say, 200+ years ago, wherein some yanks done run the brits out of town, YEEHAW! From here, two divergent languages emerged, and you English are going to have a hard time convincing anyone it's yours and that only your pronunciations matter when the whole freaking language was taken bits and pieces by other languages from other countries, many of which whilst you had your Imperialistic bootheel up their rear ends.

You're going to have an even harder time trying to convince someone that you're the only one allowed to do it, and that if Americans come along and adapt "your language" they don't have every right to do so.

Here in America, where we speak American [A dialect of early modern english, just like modern "English"], it's Zee.

Wow. Great response. It is amazing how many Europeans complain about how America steals their culture or wrecks their language. They forget that their culture/language is merely built on those that came before them.

    Edit: spelling/grammar

Amon Ra, you forgot the base of the english language, old scandinavian and other germanic languages. English is the greatest mishmash there is, so it doesnt matter that much that the yanks change it a little bit.

Amon-Ra, the thing is that English changed the pronunciation of all the words. Not just two or three, all of them. So if you Americans want to take out "u" from some words, and say "z" different, and call it a new language, your just going to be mocked. Sorry if this offends you, but it's just my two cents.

reepnorp, the Brits didn't just wake up one morning, decide they were now a nationality, and begin pronouncing everything different. It was a gradual process, one that continues to this day. So the transition, in America at least, to Zee isn't at all unusual.

For some reason, this really cracked me up.

What do british people call armadillos? Armadillos? Please don't use that word if you are British, it's ours. Well, technically we stole a word from the native Americans and bastardized it into our language, but hey, that's pretty much what English is all about. You are implying that English was created over the span of a day, it wasn't, it was and IS an evolving language. When an evolving language is split in two, geographically, it has a tendency to diverge. Yet to this day there are some things, some words Americans say that are closer to middle and early modern english than words used in England, because in England the words evolved into something else and in America they remained. Like trash for rubbish, for instance. The next time you say rubbish, I'm going to look down my nose snobbily and say, look what you have done to my language! Mock me all you want, your flailings are futile in their hypocrisy.

    Just my 2.1 cents.
