    LOL

Actually, they played Showgirls on regular T.V. (which is policed by the pseudo-commie FCC). To make it so anyone could watch it, the producers put animated underwear on all the actresses!

So... no nudity, no acting, no plot. Funny as hell though!

I guess they should have animated the actors as well...

    @Jaguar
Some of the best films of all times have been based on books:
"The Godfather" (Mario Puzo's "The Godfather"), "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (Ken Kelsey's "Cuckoo's Nest"), "Apocalypse Now" (Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness") and "The Shawshank Redemption" (Stephen King's "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption").
    Need I say more?

The worst film I've seen is "We Were Soldiers". Obviously there are hundreds of really bad movies out there but generally they are so bad that you just laugh at them ("Masters of the Universe" starring Dolph Lundgren comes to mind).
The reason why "Were Were Soldiers" is the worst film I've seen is that it glorifies violence, completely fails to tell anything about the horrors of war - and it makes war a fight between good and evil. A lot of recent war movies fail in this sense.

Sure I can hold of a proper pornography and I dont disagree with your assessment of it but if you happen to zap around on your telly and you see Showgirls you atleast stop for a short while to give it a good look.

Victor Eremita, I don't get your point of view on We Were Soldiers. First of all, where is the good-evil part? This is one of the first movies where the vietnamese aren't viewed as some evil bastards. As for the horrors of war, hell seeing someone being burned by napalm is a big horror in my book. You don't get to see civilian cassualties and so on, but surprise, there aren't any civilian around at the place of tho battle.

However, I don't give much for the acting of Mel Gibson, but for the movie as a war movie, I've deffinedly seen worse.

Hmmm, bad movie.... Deep Blue Sea. That was a real stinker! Oh, and for you danish around: Snøvsen tar springet. It's a children movie my father force me to see. First time I've ever slept in a cinema!

[IMG] I'd have to say Death Race 2000. That was god-awfully terrible... *shudder* My Dad would disagree and say Waterworld though and I kind of agree because the idea that polar ice caps melting would cover all the Earth with only Mount Everest as a tiny tip of land is completely ludicrous scientifially but Death Race 2000 was much much worse. I'd also say all the 60s Star Trek movies but probably only because my sister and Mom watch them a lot...

As much as some people loved them, I hated all 5 Star Wars movie. I'm not sure why, but I just can't stand them. Maybe it's over exposure or something but just the thought of them hurts.

    @Grovflab
Well, a few quotes from the movie to prove my point:
The first time I've heard the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War described as "people like daddy (good people) trying to stop other people hurting each other".

This quote describes what the movie tries to do - without really trying: to be balanced and objective.

What the film succeeds in doing is telling the tale of the true [insert nationality here] hero who puts his life on the line for his country and maybe - maybe not - dies a hero's death on the battlefield. In war men rises to become heroes.

Since you are from Denmark too I think it's easier to direct you to Information's archives . Do a search on "We were soldiers" (an article called "Soldater kan atter være helte" should come up).
Obviously only a few will be able to read this article but I'm having a hard time getting the words right... Sorry.

    EDIT:
Oh, on a side note I really think you've been watching the 'wrong' movies then. A few suggestions: "Deer Hunter", "Platoon", "Apocalypse Now" and "Full Metal Jacket". All about the Vietnam War.

    EDIT: Changed the link.

@Victor Eremita: Sorry but I've just have to disagree a bit with you. I see your points, but the two quotes you make is from a father explaining his child about war, and a leader trying to calm one of his soldiers. This is rather innocent compared to what you might see in some older movies, were you see vietnamese soldier moving down allied troopers. (I might confuse this with some WW2 ovies from the 50-60'ties) I think the movie tries to make the spectator view the situation from both sides from the soldiers point of view! This is not something you see in the other movies you mention, although I will agree with you that they are very good movies none the less.

Oh by the way.... No evil vietnamese in Deer Hunter? Russian Roulette?

As for your link, well, it got me to some homepage about Odysseus in Århus?

Edit: To put up a really bad movie, Rollerball 2000! The original tells a quite good story set in a future society, the new one is just totally lame! Even the game Rollerball has been made totally confusing!

    Worst film ever.

    Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

I fell asleep in it it was so dull.

I went on a school music camp and we watched 2001 A space oddysey. When we were naughty the teachers threatened to make us watch it again. We were good then.

This was also a very dull film and I fell asleep.

Sorry about the link. I've edited it now.

"Deer Hunter" is a movie about the mental damage people suffer durring war - not about sides and who's 'good' and 'bad'. Post traumatic stress disorder (a euphemism for 'shell shock'). The Vietnamese soldiers in the PoW camp are portrayed as evil, yes, but that's because war makes people do horrible things (De Niro is walking around scorching innocents in the beginning of the war section iirc).

Maybe you are right. It's been a while since I've seen Deer Hunter, so...

As I see it, the horrors of war you mention has to be the effect on soldiers over time, as that is what happends in the movies you put in your above post. The reason this isn't in We Were Soldiers is not because some glorification of the soldiers, but simply because the movie only shows a few days of frontline action. Men doesn't change while fighting, they change when they sit down and think it through afterwards.

Has anybody seen 'Night of the Lepus' starring DeForrest Kelly? It's a would-be shocker about killer rabbits and the realization is even dafter than the concept. People are attacked by guys in rabbit suits after which the film cuts to a real rabbit with a bit of fake blood around its mouth twitching its nose.

You can read more about this unsung triumph here.
