Somewhat of a thread hijack, but I wanted to know what is a normal and "way too slow" timeline for the game. Give me days to complete chapters.

I'm currently starting Chapter 4 and I'm at like day 40. I feel like I'm behind, but you lose days at a time sometimes when for example you want to trade in the Wyvern head all the way in Beregost and you're in the Cloakwood 3rd map.

I'm sure this varies a lot, but what pace is good to measure by. I'm not trying to be a speed demon, but I"m trying to establish a mark to try and beat later.

Hehe, I usually start chapter 4 on about day 180. I spend a hell of a lot of time on the lighthouse map killing off sirines. I wonder if this makes me the slowest player?

30.5 minutes...I read through that thinking, "is this all you do in Baldur's Gate?" I mean, seriously, I probably spent over 100 hours in my last play-through (I gotta explore/collect everything). A copy of Baldur's Gate? $40.00. New computer? $1200.00. Seeing Sarevok get pwned by a level 3 thief/mage? Priceless.

    Just watched through it.

Wow, I am so slow at playing this game.

And? Slow is good. It gets you more enjoyment out of the game. The one thing that strikes me most about these speedruns is that they can't possibly be having fun on this run. Sure, it's probably a good feeling afterwards, of accomplishment, but did they have any fun during their time playing it, or was it just the stress of gottagogottarunfinishquick? To me, it kind of defeats the purpose of playing a game in the first place.

You're right, Fel. It's sacrilege to speed through a game like BG so quickly :p .

I usually spend far more than 30 mins in just one area!

[IMG] Well, he only used 30 minutes making it, which means he should have plenty of time completing the game at a slower speed.

just watched it last night. He doesn't rest the whole game. I eventually rest when my characters are tired since I figured it would accumulate fatigue. Realistically (and I know we're talking about a fantasy game), the fatigue would overwhelm a player so they couldn't be up for 20 days.

Also, I love the trick with the wand of lightning. I've had really bad luck with first Imoen, that other evil thief and then Safana with the open locks so I gave up a while ago the "Pillage every house in sight" strategy so I would have never come across the wand.

I've added and "Thief/Mage" to the replay alternative list right after "Lawful Evil Monk" and "Assasin" and "Blade". It's amazing how easy this game is when you just hide from everything and steal anything that's not tied down (and even then, you try to untie it anyway.)

Oh, I agree Fel. I wouldn't give up playing slow for going that fast as I prefer getting the most out of the game. Doesn't stop me looking like I'm racing snails though.

If he gets stopped by Noober, is that considered a redo? Haha
