    [IMG] Before I get to far along let me first say that I love the game and all of the party joinable NPC's as is, but somethings can always use a little spicing up. So here is what I am thinking, there are 13 Human party joinable NPC's and 2-4 of the other races. Which races would you like to see more represented in the game and what class would you like them to be?

    More half-elves and the little races. Two of each just aren't enough, especially when there are conflicts (Kagain-Yeslick & Quayle-Tiax) or dependencies (Jaheira-Khalid). A halfling cleric or a gnomish F/I would be a good addition, and a dwarven thief would be a good departure to the norm. A half-elven bard (with PROPER stats :p ) would also be a welcome change.

    I have to pick more halflings as #1. A ranger halfling? Why not? Halflings are closely connected to the earth. Or maybe a druid. I think a halfling cleric would be hard unless halfling gods are included. Their relationship to their gods is different from humans.
    #2) Dwarfs. Why not a good dwarf?
    #3) Gnomes
    #4) Half-elves. My Character is usually a half-elf.

    No. Outright no. Screw with the 2e rules all you want for BG2, but do not impinge on BG1's purity.

    Bah, rules schmules :p . Halflings rawk. I want to play a halfling (never have done) but don't know what class to be. I don't think I'll be a straight druid, because as a class they suck.

    Halfling F/Ts with min-maxed stats make pretty good CHARNAMEs in BG1. (Then again, F/Ts of pretty much any race make good CHARNAMEs in BG1).

    You won't need to depend on Safana or Imoen as the party thief, and you'll hold your own as an archer. Give it a try.

    Oh I am happy with the majority of the human NPCs, afterall, humans are the most dominant race on Fearun. What I would like to see is some dual-classed characters. Sure, we have low levels, so make them dualled at level 2! Wouldn't it be cool to have a fighter2 or thief2/mage combo? A pure-like mage which can use better weapons!

    And I agree with Felinoid, the purity of the BG1 should be protected at all costs!

    Personally, as someone who never played PnP, I don't give a rat's arse about the 2E rules. Moreover, the game creates its own rules to make NPCs more interesting, but in doing so it does but show how limited a player is when creating his/her own version of a character.

    - Some characters have ridiculously high stats (16 CON for a wizard?)
    - Paladins can associate themselves with evil characters, perform evil acts (to an extent), and do not fall.
    - Rangers can rage (Minsc anyone?).
    - Some mages can wield swords. Xan's is a Moonblade, yeah, but it's still a friggin' sword.
    - Tamoko: a cleric who can cast Fire Arrow? In full armor?
    - Gorion: A mage who can cast a boatload of spells with no casting delay.

    I want my character to be different. I want him to have babies and call him Loretta. :p

    Well, I do not think it is wrong. A mage can be tough, after all, if he took proper nourishment as he grew up, and if he kept doing his exercises and so on. There is no general rule that a mage can not have high STR, DEX or CON. Besides, CON is required for most specialist mages anyway.

    Do a real evil act, and you will still fall. (I guess)

    It's Minsc's very special ability. Kinda for coolness factor. Nearly every NPC has a special power. Even the PC, is very special and unique. (for the reason we all know, yeah?)

    Again this is a very special and unique case. It is a family blade afterall, and is very magical in nature.

    I haven't battled Tamoko yet, so I have no clue. :p

    It is a cutscene, and again, for the coolness factor. You also know that in BG2, Irenicus casts spells like this too! ZAP! kills one Shadow thief. BLAST! There goes another. CHUNK! Last one is chunkified into pieces of raw meat. etc. etc... Looks cool! But when you finally battle Irenicus, (in the vanilla game, some mods complicates things :shake: ) you can not help but notice that he is not that half powerful!

    All in all, I still think BG is mostly loyal to PnP rules. At least there are no halfling rangers or druids around. :p

    Edwin is a Conjurer so he's got high CON...

    Once I tried to dual as many NPCs as possible.
    Imoen (of course)
    Xzar --> Cleric
    Shar Teel --> Thief
    Safana --> Enchanter (since in BG1 you can choose a specialty when dualling into a spellcaster)

    I even cheated a bit to dual Edwin into a Thief and Branwen into a Fighter (and Skie into a Mage since I ran out of tomes). Slightly heretical but fun.

    And I do agree with Colthrun. BG2 in that respect allows you to create a more exotic PC thanks to kits, HLAs and DC opportunities. Sometimes I give a lesser Werewolf form (special ability) to my PC after going through TotSC (it doesn't add any firepower, it's just cool).

    Even if it's not canonical I don't see why you couldn't make a Halfling Ranger if you wanted to or a Half Elf Paladin. If you don't give extra perks or anything there is no real problem with that IMO. It adds some variety. You can't dual a paladin so you don't have a real advantage in being Human (and being the only Half Elf Pally in the Realms is way too cool).

    When I used to play regular BG1 I'd start as a Paladin and fall to dual into Cleric or Mage. The dual class Fallen Paladin/Cleric or Fallen Paladin/Necromancer looked real good. I'm sad that in BG2 Paladins become regular Fighters and don't get the "Fallen Paladin" title. There are no differences between a Fallen Paladin and a Fighter from a power perspective -except getting higher roll stats more easily- but having "Fallen" written on the character screen is definitely cool!

    Paladin NPCs will leave but won't fall. So kill a few peasants and donate some money to the temple is possible but it's still not logical.

    @ Silverstar - you saw Tamoko right at the very beginning. When Gorion is trying to fight off Sarevok and the ogres, Tamoko fires a Flame Arrow at you despite wearing metal armour, then Gorion says "Quickly child, get out of here!"

    Minor Spoiler...

    You can choose to fight her or not later on in the game ;) .

    Depending on how high your reputation was before commiting the crime. With a high enough reputation (12+ IIRC), a paladin can go to Beregost, kill the elven mage for whom you retrieved the scroll of Identify in Candlekeep, get 2500XP in the process, and still not fall. :good: :evil:

    @Barmy Army

    Why yes I now remember the scene, it does 1 dmg to PC, right? Though truth be told I was awed at the fighting scene 'Oehhh cool! Go Gorion!' so I thought Tamoko was a 'he'. :shake:

    Did she really 'cast' the flame arrow? Flame arrows do not do 1 dmg normally, they pack quite a punch. (5d6 min, 3d6 with a save vs spell) I thought she fired an arrow of fire from her bow, but I am not %100 sure yet. :)

    If choice is given I will not fight her, ofcourse, I am playing a do-goody kind guy, and I LOVE it! :love:

    I would also like to see more, early-available NPCs.

    Chalk it up to another special ability. Like Minsc's rage, Yeslick's Dispel Magic, Branwen's extra-long-lasting Spiritual Hammer, Quayle's Invisibility, Tiax's Summon Ghast, Eldoth's poison arrows, Kagain and Coran's super-high stats...I could go on forever. A 1 damage fire spell is a pretty piddling extra power compared to all that stuff. :p

    I would love to see a halfling druid (female, because the male papper dolls are butt ugly). A male Drow would be cool to, maybe make him a Mage/Thief. a female half-elven bard WITH BARD STATS! An elven druid, and any class of Gnome,Dwarf. I would also like to see more uniqe race/class combos.
