Anyone know what the best Type of PDAS to buy would be? Any clue on where to go and buy one? It is X-mas time, and I am meaning to buy one for my dad. I want some sale info... if you have it...Thanks a million...

Amazon sells them, for one... You can go there via any of the Amazon banners on SP and help support the site.

Personal Data Assistants are those annoying small hand held mini-computer/address books/organizers that the yuppies seem to love so much. The most famous brand being the palm pilot.

What kind of tasks do you need to perform with your PDA? Basic daytimer stuff, or major computing tasks? There are two basic kinds available - those using the Palm OS, and those with Microsoft Windows.

Personally, I prefer the Windows PDAs, because I like the extra power and the easy compatiblity with my desktop computer's Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). I used an HP Jornada through graduate school and it was the perfect tool - I used it for accounting, homework, e-mail, contact info, everything. But the Windows versions are pricier than the Palms, so if all you need is a glorified daytimer, then go with a Palm. Or take a Sony Clie, the Mercedes equivalent of the Palm world, if you want something classily mid-range.

And Taluntain's right - buy through SP! What an easy way to earn an avatar!

You forgot a type Grey: Symbian devices. If you're looking for something with phone / internet capabilities, these are worth a look. The Sony Ericsson phones (specifically, the P800 and P900) are very nice, and I checked out a nice Motorola PDA phone the other day (think it was the A920 or something like that). The P900's camera can film video (with sound), too, which is an added bonus. They are reasonably pricey, though.

If you want just a straight PDA, I agree with Grey... go for something running WinCE / PocketPC, or a Clie.

How computer savvy is the recipient? If he's comfortable running Outlook, for example, go with a Windows CE device for compatibility. If he's a technophobe or newbie, a Palm may be a more user-friendly choice.

Thank you so much! I didn't think I would get as much help as I did. My father is somewhat computer savvy, as in he can figure it out, but will most likely not care if it is not top-o-the-line. He will want internet connection, so I guess that entails some work on his part... I sure as heck ain't gonna buy that too. I would really like to support SP's advvertisers, so I will check out the Amazon site. I did find some sales online at some other stores, office max, staples, etc. I know that staples waives shipping. I will check out amazon and see about getting it there. They tend to have a good price? I don't know. We'll see. I really appriciate all of your help... hey, if you want to start a Public Display thread, I'll check it out! HA J/K Thanks Again
