Nice system, Fat Egg. Question: Why are you using SDRAM in a P4, and what mobo are you running? I did not know that the SDRAM version of the i845 chipset was available in mobos yet.

But it plays all my games.. and downloads fast so i am happy. I will be acquiring another computer from work almost identical except it is a Celeron. At least then i might convince the hubby to play BG with me.

OK, I'm not overly technical and I have no idea what a mobos is, but i'll do my best:

- one beige box with a couple of slidey out trays in the front
- a TV type thing
- a mouse with wheel
- a keyboard
- some speakers

Works good, had some heat problems at first
but some case alterations fixed the prob. (drilled some holes in the bottom and installed a couple more fans)

Well that's all I know of. And a little question now. I use my PC only for games and maybe sometimes a graphics program (Photoshop etc.). Would it offer me anything if I upgraded to a Pentium IV? Thanks.

My, oh my, there are sure a lot of monster-PCs out in the world today. My own computer and I, however, am here to lower the average monster-rating on these boards.

My laptop & workstation are a lot more powerful than this little sucker, but I didn't configure/build them, so I don't really appreciate their presence.

Yeah, Egg, a mobo is shorthand for Motherboard.

Chances are if you do not know what motherboard you have, Fat Egg, you prolly are running with some type of RDRAM. To my knowledge, the SDRAM enabled i845 chipset from Intel does not have any available motherboards yet. You have the i850 chipset, currently the only P4 chipset available.

Since when is there a mobile version of the Voodoo 5 5500? I did not know there even was a lap top variant, its .25 micron manufactoring processs generates too much heat and sucks too much power. Not to mention the size factor, a 64 meg card cannot yet fit in a laptop. I think you are spoofing us, Fat Egg. There are too many errors in your systems. Since when can a computer have two AGP slots? Unless you have the PCI version of the V5. You have three video cards, a GF2, a Voodoo Banshee, and a V5. I can see a GF2 along side a V5, but the Banshee based Monster Fusion . . . why would you want it? You get Glide support from the V5. And I don't think there was ever a 32meg version of the Fusion.

I think are trying to fool us, Fat Egg.

Mollusken! Hahah, wow I never thought I'd see another person with the k-6 400 overdriver... I'm also amazed at the number of 1.xGHZ machines here.

Anyway, haha, again, bringing the average DOWN:

A refurbed AST 166mhz, converted to a K-6 400 (actually comes in at a startling 399mhz...??) with an ANCIENT "Real 3D Starfighter" video card (paltry 8 megs of vram), and the machine has 96 megs of ram.
Some generic ethernet card for the DSL.

I think I'm finally going to have to go out and get an up-to-date system soon.

Runs BG2 ok though.

laugh at my puny machine if you will, but I ran Diablo II and Baldur's Gate II just fine thank you. Still, the problem with e-machines is you can't upgrade them, and when a 3 year old game like Half-Life looks bad on your system, it's time for a new one. So I paid a visit to Dell's web site, and soon had the following:

1.5ghz Pentium 4 with 128mb RAM
40X/12X cd r (there was another number and another slash, but I can't remember what it was and I'm too lazy to check.
32mb GeForce II "Ultra" or "pro" or something like that
Altec Lansing Speakers
60GB hard drive - plenty of room for Diablo II AND Baldur's Gate II, plus about 900 mp3's (yes I ripped them all from my own cds), and a ton of other stuff
DSL modem (woo-hoo!)
19" monitor
