[IMG] I once hired had my group get hired by this elderly wizard who needed them to retrive a chest like box for him. He instisted not tell them what lays within, but not to open it. He gave them a guide who along the whole journey spoke of his masters life of searching for a beautiful rare gem. Sowing into there mind thats what they saught. Greed took over after it was found...needless to say, they opened Pandora's Box.

That kind of reminds me of my short career as a dm... It started when I was 8 and ended when I was 10, and well, being a child did make for some funny episodes. Let me se if I can actually remember some of them....

Oh yes, how could I forget? Here's one trick I pulled:

One fool wanted to join our group when I was DMing. The group didn't really like him (ie, they hated his guts) but we let him come along for politeness's sake.

He wanted to be a paladin. I was like "Don't do it man, I'm planning an evil campaign." Yet, he insisted on doing so. Eventually, I sighed, made a few adjustments to my notes and began a neutral campaign instead. I ruled out evil alignments for all the other PCs simply because I'm a considerate DM. The other players were thankfully very understanding and intelligent and the campaign began relatively smoothly.

Problems soon cropped up though. The PCs were a band of mercenary 'problem solvers' who worked for profit, although they did it in a most trustworthy way (no backstabbing or cheating of clients). Mr. Paladin decided that it wasn't heroic enough and started stirring up trouble. He dragged the entire party into a near suicidal battle with a Black Dragon at low levels and tried to smite a noble who detected as evil but who had otherwise not done anything to the PCs yet.

He played the part of the stuck-up moron well enough though, I'll give him that. But he eventually became so disruptive and so dominant that the other PCs became complaining. He even executed the party's rogue for pickpocketing the dungeon keys from an orc, saying that theft is wrong!

    Thus, I did this:

Me: You see a group of baby drow.
Paladin (drow fanboy): Oooh! I adopt them and raise them as warriors of righteousness!
Me: Bing! Drow are evil! By consorting with evil you have violated your code! You're now a fighter with no feats!
Paladin: What? In that case I smite them!
Me: Bing! How could you kill children? Such a heinious act has robbed you of your holy abilities!
Paladin: Alright, then I leave them alone.
Me: Bing! By leaving them, you have allowed for the potential deaths of countless victims at the hands of these drow when they grow up! Fallen with no hope of atonement! Nyah! Nyah!

Needless to say, he left after that. The other PCs cheered and used their weapons to perform many grisly acts upon the paladin character.

After that, paladins never showed up in my campaigns again except as cannon fodder or random critter encounters for my PCs. ;)

Well, that is rather cruel DMing, seeing as how Drow kids probably don't detect as evil. But hey, you do what you have to do to teach arrogant, presumptuous paladins a lesson, don't you? ;) :D

Heh, he was lawful good. He could've just brought the babies to some lawful authority, and let them deal with them.
Though there's little doubt they'd kill them.... and then again..Bing! you practicaly killed little babies. You become a fallen paladin, with no chance of redemption :o

    Great fiendish trick though :thumb:

Of course you could just pop in a drow raiding party, who were recovering the babies. The rest of the party would make a deal with the drow, while the paladin could not. :)

Another one I thought of when on the phone with Master of Nuhn today:

High Charisma Red Mage with Circle Magic, the Leadership feat and as much mage followers/cohorts as he can get. Instant Nuclear War
