[IMG] if any of u can help with this it would be much appreciated-

im new to baldur's gate 2 and im thinking of having an elf fighter. he'll have proficiencies in both 2 handed weapons and crossbows. the problem is i dont know what kit to use - hes not a berzerker, hes an elf; hes good with swords but i like armour; thus my prob. i have left out a kit but i know it doesnt fit my char bkground. help me out. hes supposed to be a great all rounder and a flexible warrior.

    thanks doods,
    CORBULO87

You don't need to use a kit, you can keep him as a straight fighter. As he is an Elf you might also consider making him a no-kit Ranger with vampires as his racial enemy. As for the profeciencies, Elf's are traditionally skilled in long swords and bows. If you are using a long sword, you can remove the bow and put on a shield when enemies get too close, something to consider. Your specialisiation in two handed weapons might not get you the benefits you hope for. It provides a few bonuses when you use melee (not ranged weapons) weapons that need two hands such as 2 handed swords and halbards. However, if you have no 'specific' ability in a weapon you will suffer penalties while using it even if you have the 'general' two-handed profeciency. If that is the route you want to go, you would probably be better of putting your starting points into a specific weapon (eg 2 handed swords) to start with and adding the 2 handed profeciency later.

For more help on which weapons are useful in BG2 have a look at this Sorcerer's guide.

[IMG] hey thanks for that info, ive already seen that area of the site though. i was going to give him the 2 handed swords proficiency after all. sorry, typo! i wasnt aware that u could have a straight fighter - thanks for that as well.
despite all this i still do want a fighter, not a ranger, and i was wondering if u had any more info on fighters and the way they work - i was goin to give him a xbow but now i dont know - the only reason for that was to give him an early game advantage so i wouldnt be healing him all the time and so i could get enough money or go on a quest to get a decent 2 handed sword.

    much appreciated,
    CORBULO87

stats you definitely want high are dex and con (for AC, missile weapon bonuses and plenty of hit points)
your elf will be able to get 19 dex = good!

as for the others - distribute as you want among:

str - 15+ will suffice (you will find gauntlets/girdles to increase strength

int and wis - not as important for a fighter

cha - possibly the least important stat - (get store discounts, occasionally better speech options)

[IMG] thanks for the stat ideas, but i was wonderin about the bow/xbow profs, should i max out on 2 handed sword only, or should i even up on both - im only intending to use the bow/xbow early in the game and later on he will be a front line fighter only.

PS thanks for the dex hint, i thought max was 18!

PPS can u dual mage or cleric or druid in higher levels?

19 dex for elves, 19 con for dwarves, 19 str for half orcs.

Max the sword. The arrows in this game suck rocks, and you won't be needing them for very long. Seriously, stick to your ranged weapons only to pre-empt any nasty spells, then wade in with the sword.

personally i find it really annoying using ranged weapons (changing arrows, moving back out of melee range, etc) for the main character (but then again im just lazy)

bows are really not worth it unless you're a specialist bow person like mazzy

go short bows, cos there arent enough cool longbows/crossbows in the game

He's like the elven race's answer to The Tick. All you need is to nab Minsc and you'll have your Arthur.

That's only 70 total. Try rerolling a couple of times. Besides it will be hard roleplaying with int 3.

Yeah I agree, I always have at least 10 everywhere (but I could go with 8 Int for Half-Orcs, 9 Wis for Gnomes, etc.). As a Fighter you don't need a very high roll (84 gives the maximum in your prime statistics - Str, Dex and Con).

If I would make a Fighter I'll maximize Strength, Dexterity and Constitution, make the other 3 stats average (10) and put the rest in Wisdom (saving throws) or Charisma.

intelligence of 3 does seem a *little* low - battles with mindflayers might get a little tricky... aim for 7+ in all the less necessary stats

[IMG] fine then, ill TRY (note the word TRY - TRY being the operative verb...) to get a total of 84...

    str 18
    dex 19
    con 18
    int 12
    wis 13
    cha 14

yeah i spose i could go for 84... how long do u think ill have to roll for?

anyway can fighters get spells or anything like that in later levels? im hangin out to see if i should go for a SLIGHTLY magically adept leader for healing and stuff...

any suggestions are welcome and just remember this character hasnt been made yet!

That's 94 ;) Also great if you can get that, but 94 was my best roll ever :D

An Elven Fighter? 18/##,19,17,10,10,10 is a 84. Remember an Elf ha a Constitution penalty.

How mutch to roll for 94???

My ever best roll was 93!!!!

After my calculations you should have at least one 94 roll in 1-600 rolls for sure.

    Good rolling!!!

[IMG] thanks for that - dumbass is me.
dunno how i got that 93% in maths last term...

i wasnt aware of the con penalty, thanks for that as well.

because Corbulon (thats the elf - ref to my net name...) is two handed sword based, could any1 give suggestions on which quests to do or which shops to go to to get some decent 2hnd swords? thats not second hand...

pls put some info on how to get there as well, and a few spoilers are fine - just as long as they rnt too big... and place prices if theyre @ a shop (if ya know them) also theyre ablilties and stats (also if ya know them)

no references to the baldur's gate 2 section on the sorcerer site either, ive read em all.

thanks all u doodz out theyre willing to give a newbie a hand.

Don't worry about it. Really. You'll get a good two-handed sword in the very first dungeon and it will last you just fine until you eventually run into even better ones on your own.

TIN_MAN: I might be one of the luckiest people on earth if it comes to dice rolling ;) I -NEVER- roll longer than 5 minutes (I would fall asleep when I reach 10) and just take my best roll :D

Some classes don't require high rolls to be very good. A Fighter or Mage with 84 is good enough for me. If I want to dual-class it might become trickier but I only played once with a dual-class (Fighter/Cleric). If you also play BG1 + ToSC you don't need to worry much about your rolls, with the tomes you can get +1 Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Charisma and +3 Wisdom. My 94 roll was in BG1, so you can imagine what stats he now has... ;)
