My friend thought Draconis was hard and well.. he was. His mage part was ridiculously easy.. like most mages, you can just send in your hard core fighter with the cloak of reflection and provided they don't imprison you, you're golden.

The fact that abazagail will knife you unless you put the mordikainen's sword into take his attention when he's in human/frosty the freakin' snowman form then deal with him as a dragon is really annoying.. the hard bit about his dragonness is the fact he does that blue dragon lightning crap and it's really annoying!

I wish I could borrow a friend's dnd character a Saint/Vassel of Bahamut to tank out abazagail, he'd mince the dragon

Is there any really good ways of dealing with him with who I've got - Me, Human Fighter level 25 ish, Minsc, Jaheira, Imoen, Nalia, Anomen. I try summoning swords of Mordikainen which distract him for a while then he wing snares then lightnings my party to death I try time stop, then summon sword, breach/pierce magic, lower magic resistance so I can try and get some spells in it's really annoying that his spell deflection always seems to be on even with a warding whip on him.

So annoying I've had to refrain from breaking my fist against the screen. Just want to jump in the game and beat the dragon to death with my barehands or beat it through a wall a la Cain Marko/Juggernaut.

I can only get two scrolls of electricity resistance.

    WHAT DO I DO?!

You could go rest and have your priests memorize a few Protections From Lightning. Don't use low-level targeting spells i.e. Magic Missile on Abazigal, try to use area effect spells, and scrolls if possible, 'cos you won't get a casting failure that way. You could use Protection From Magical Weapons and use one of your mages as a bait.

I guess you do not have Jaheira's harper pin? Shame, that item really helps here. (%100 immunity to lightning)

You can cast Protection from Lightning (mage an priest versions) on your party, spell casters should also have SI:Abjuration so that Abazigal can not remove magic or imprison you. Remove/resist fear is crucial as always in all dragon battles.

I heard Abazigal is easy enough to distract, summon Hasted Mordy swords and a Planetar to delay him.

Cast Imp. Alacrity after a Time Stop. If you have your caster equipped Robe of Vecna and amulet of power, you will cast spells fast. Set Autopause on spell cast, then assault Abby with those:pierce Shield, Breach, Lower Resistx2, Greater Malison, then hurl as many ABDHWiltings and/or Skull traps as possible. You can store some of these spells in Sequencers and Triggers so they are casted even faster. (a good idea)

With some luck he will fall fast, while your fighters GWWing on him, (provided he is always breached) mages should pound with never-ending waves of Horrid Wiltings. Area effect is cool as it can not be affected via Spell deflection/turning..

I've never really used sequencers and triggers.. course they look great but I've never had a need to use them as of yet. Do you just click to cast the trigger then it imputs what you need?

What's Imp. Alacrity sorry? And GWWing?

High-level spells and skills. The ones you choose once you level-up enough.

Anyway, get some resistances to electricity. Leave out the fighters if you must; they can survive the initial blast. Then it's a matter of getting the summons coming. Planetars really help here. If you had more mages, you could easily lower his resistance and then just pound away with Time Stop + Imp. Alactricity.

But this is not the case, just keep the electricity resistances up, his attention on the summons, mages on work, and your fighters on his back. And when he wing-buffets, run away until his attention is once again on the summons. Easy as that. Jaheira's Iron Skin -spell can also make it even easier. ;)

GWW=Greater Whirlwind Attack, a special High Level Ability (HLA) an attack form for epic level fighters which allow them attack 10 times per round, for devastating effect. Your fighters can choose this ability when they level up. I bet they already have some. To use it:Access to special abilities via star button (on the right en when you select a character), then choose the HLA. Your fighter will attack 10 times for the next round!

Imp. Alacrity=Improved Alacrity, a HLA for mages and sorcerers, unlike fighters, you memorise and cast these as 9th lvl spells. When you cast it, for 2 rounds, when you finish casting a spell you can instantly start casting another. If you have Robe of Vecna and Amulet of Power, you will cast spells so fast, you can empty your entire spell book in those two rounds. Set Autopause on spell cast for best effect. You will see the real power of your arc-mages, and enemies will tremble in fear!

About Sequencers and Triggers, when you cast them, you choose spells to be put in. Then they go to your special ability section. (star button in the right end) From there you can choose the sequencer/trigger and cast it, which will release all spells stored, for great effect. Try putting Pierce Magics and Lower Resistances and Breaches, and you will start the combat by debuffing Abazigal!

Experiment with Chain Contingency. (9th lvl spell) That is the most useful spell in the game. Put three ABDHWiltings, set Condition to Nearest Enemy, Enemy seen, and the battle will be over before you move a finger! Or you can use it as a defense:Set MYSELF, when hit, and put:Stonsekin, Mirror Image, Pro from Magic Weapons, if some one hits your mage for damage, he will instantly raise a solid defense!

Seriously, you will unerstand that archmages and highsorcerers are the most powerful and dangerous characters in the game!

    Hope this helps.

Cool thanks.. I may have to do some levelling.. where do I get the robe and amulet btw?

I sort of thought mages were really powerful, but then after picking up that cloak of reflection, there hasn't been a mage that hurt my fighter. I kind of put everyone else in the background and bring them in whenever I need extra fire support.

Robe of Vecna is buyable in the Adventurer's Mart from Deidre. The amulet of power is from (or off his corpse) Arin Linvale when you side with the Shadow Thieves (or kill him when you side with Bodhi). The only way to get them now, if you don't have them, is using CLUAconsole or Shadowkeeper.

I think I might have the amulet of power.. I probably should have I sided with the thieves. Definitely can't have robe, no-one else seemed to be worth talking to in the store hehe.

I started off with regular Baldur's Gate, then worked through Tales of the Sword Coast then exported my character into SoA and am on to Throne of Bhaal. These dragons have definitely been the hardest fight I've come across. Kangaxxx I just slayered to death, last fight in BG2, spell up run down to bottom of screen, clean the demons out let Irenicus chase main character round till he runs out of spells, summon some monsters and shoot the s*** out of him with everyone using missile weapons. Any other dragon, cast silence, cloudkill/deathfog from a distance till it falls over. Both Abazigal and Draconis have really made me sweat. Haven't gone back to Abazigal yet as I was too mad at the game and need time to cool down.

Thanks a lot guys for all your great advice and patience, it's good to know people are still helpful and still playing this great game.
