What class would you suggest?

    I'm currently playing through the game with a CE dwarven berserker, but getting a little bored with it. I now want to start a new game and was wondering what class you would suggest for someone who has played through several times and always with fighter types. I've tried several times to play with a pure mage or other magic user but alwys stopped because I missed going into melee with my main character. I've already played with a f/t f/m/t monk pure fighter and a dualled f/m. Any other classes that are fun to play (with party)?

    I've had alot of fun with the druid class, especially the shapeshifter kit. Melee is great and you get great defensive and offensive spells.

    Yup, I agree with Imrael.

    Shapeshifter is somewhat like a bard, although he can do both things better - casting and fighting.
    He can do priest casting like any other priest + he can become a Very powerful fighter in greater werewolf form. Better than Korgan ;)

    An assasin is another interesting choice, becouse of a completely diffrent style of fighting-skulking.

    Excuse my ignorance but isn't shapeshifters skill as a melee fighter and as a healer mutually exclusive? I mean he has to shift back to use spells and then re-shift to join the melee, and he can do that a limited amount of times per day, am I wrong?

    In my brief experience shapeshifters always end up with a horrible AC and usually are quite poor tanks.

    As far as my experience go, pure class druids are simply not worth it, if I wanted a druid I would make him a multi-class F/D, but why would I do that, when Jaheira is there for the taking...

    I guess they could be fun if you tried anything else... btw, why not try swashie instead?

    Inquisitor (the paladin stronghold actually gives you quests that you don't have to wait weeks and weeks for, and gives you good armour at the end), Skald (I've heard the playhouse is fun) Sorcerer (you can be so powerful...I mean I could've killed Saruman's army of 10 000 with a bunch of red dragon's breaths and a summoned Planetar).

    I'd say do something different. Surely you're sick of the irritating De'Arnise Keep. You have to keep going back there to check if there are any quests, and the quests that do come you have to wait ages for...Resting for no reason other than to pass the time. I hate doing that.

    It is correct that while shapeshifted druid cannot cast any spells - and in my opinion it is right that way. I downloaded Shapeshifter rebalance mod where werewolf forms are restored to their original PnP strenght. The bad thing they added is casting spells while shapeshifted. And its pretty lame this way :( Why would you even want to be your normal self if you can do anything with AC -15 and a whole bunch of resistances??

    It seems to me you only saw normal shapeshift forms and normal werewolf. I agree normal animal shapeshifts really suck and werewolf is not that much as well.
    But IIRC shapeshifting into GW gives you:
    40%magic resistance
    -10 AC (i shapeshifted Cernd and it jumped from 10 - no items to -10, with items it goes lower)
    21 strenght, 20 dexterity, 25 constitution,
    THAC0 -12 bonus
    3 attacks/round
    +50% all elemental resistances(magical fire&cold as well)

    Now if you tell me thats not a good tank then i dont know what is :D

    [IMG] I believe that you could try with a ranger any class Kit is good not perfect but not bad either. And you can get either melee or ranged attacks with good stats and priest spells from level 9. I think that he is an interesting choice to begin when you have learned to play with fighters and want to try something different.

    Is this with the shapeshifter rebalancing mod installed? If these figures are correct, I think I'll stay away from shifters, they look overpowered :)

    Btw, I looked up the shapeshifter rebalancing mod readme and this is what it says about the changes implemented:

    "This also fixes a "bug" where attributes of the CRE file for "PC polymorphed into a Werewolf" were not actually given to the PC by the
    Polymorph opcode.

    Normal Werewolf:

    You Were Supposed To Get / You Actually Got
    Base Magic Res 20% / Magic Res *LOCKED AT* 20%
    Immunity to Normal Weapons / Nothing
    Paw = 1d12 slashing / Paw = 1d6 piercing

    For the Greater Werewolf ...

    You Were Supposed To Get / You Actually Got THAC0 6 / Nothing
    Saves 1/1/1/2/1 / Nothing
    Base Elemental Res 50% / Elemental Res *LOCKED AT* 50%
    Base Magic Res 40% / Magic Res *LOCKED AT* 40%
    Immunity to Normal Weapons / Nothing
    Paw = +3 Weapon / Paw = +2 Weapon
    Paw = 2d8 slashing / Paw = 1d6 piercing
    Regeneration 3 HP / second / Nothing"

    ok, these are all decent improvements, and make the shifter much more bearable, the only thing that bugs me about the rebalancing mod is the ability to cast spells whil in wolf form, as you pointed out.

    Like it's said in the readme:
    "The "Rebalancing" gives a Greater Werewolf Shapeshifter the +7 HP per Level
    due to a fighter with 25 CON (before you just got +2). Most importantly,
    Shapeshifters may now cast spells while in Wolf form. Hey, they're supposed
    to have dedicated their lives to controlling lycanthropy. I'm sure a little
    fur won't mess up their communion with nature. Yuan Ti, Githyanki,
    Sahuagin, they can all cast spells. Why not wolfmen? "
