Well, they can't see invisibility. Backstab won't work, though. They aren't really resistant to anything, but remember not to get your wizards too close or the things will turn their eyes on them. When you get in close and personal, they die pretty quicly, mayhap try invisible fighters?

If you don't want a challenge, go buy the shield of Balduran (Deidre, bonus merchant) or come back later with the cloak of mirroring.

There is a patch to the game that adds a couple of bonus merchants (to Wuakeen's Promenade, I believe). Deirdre is one of the them.

    But I think that's cheating.

Sharlp, actually this merchant is the part of the official collector's cd, so it's not cheat, but you're right, there are are other ways to dispatch these guys. Try to use fireballs for example, then haste your fighter, and archer and make a short work on them. Or if you wish, here's the link... http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/BG2extras.zip

The easiest way to dispatch these guys, or at least the easiest way without taking a pile of damage, is to summon a fire elemental to do your dirty work for you. Have your thief hide in shadows (or use invisibility) and scout out how many there are, then have him and the rest of your party retreat quite far away, then send your fire elemental in and mop up.

I found fire elementals really useful in the beholders lair. I sent 2 fire elementals and Yoshimo out to explore the area and take out all the beholders and gauths. The fire elementals also made the battle with the blind priests much easier.

He doesn't need elementals - any summoned creature can do pretty much job against those.
I suggest Kitthix and Beserk Warrior for low level party.
