By the end of TOB, Anomen's dual classed nature is kind of irrelevant -- this THAC0 as a cleric has surpassed that of his fighter level, his strength is (or should be) modified by an item so his extraordinary strength is irrelevant, his Hitpoints are higher than those of a similarly levelled cleric (OK, that's relevant, I guess).

The only benefit I see is that he can achieve grand mastery of some weapons and full ability in fighting styles, and as has been mentioned that isn't really a great deal.

However during the SOA portion of the game, and even the early parts of TOB, his dual class is helpful.

i almost always end up taking this party:

    me
    jaheira
    minsc
    imoen
    ANOMEN
    keldorn

and the others that have spoken of anomen positively have said enough so i don't have write my oppinion as it is generally the same :)

though having jan, minsc, anomen, mazzy and sarevok in the same party is alot of fun because of jans dialogues with the other npc's :p
man did i laugh alot when i used that party.

Hey... that does sound funny... I'll have to try that last party... Was Anomen CN or LG... 'cause that would probably make a difference.

Is it even possible to keep CN Anomen in one's party for more than short period of time? I seem to recall folks saying that if he goes CN, he eventually totally loses it, attacks the party, then runs away to curl up in the fetal position in some corner somewhere like Robert Downey Jr. ;)

I've kept CN Anomen in my party throughout the entire game. I don't know where you read that, but it's wrong.

Can't remember where I read it, either, probably on soem message board, but I have heard it several times, and early on enough that it couldn't have been part of some user mod. Maybe it depends on whether or not you are romancing him when it happens...?

Nope. It does not happen, period. I've looked at his scripts and there is no place where that would occur.

When I ran CN Anomen, his attitude changes drastically -- almost as if the world has been lifted from his shoulders. He still maintains his faith in Helm and if you're romancing him, the dialogues are less strained. The only time I've known him to leave the party for good is if you allow him to kill his father.

I just picked up Anomen for the first time as I need a cleric, and he's already irritating me. I say I'll help the buried guy, he tells me not to. He advised me to kill the Shadow Thief that Mae'var told me to, and when Jaheira told him off, he called her an 'insignificant wench' or something similar. That last one almost made me kill him right there

I think I'll stick with now though...no other cleric available.

Much as I hate to say it, that's just the way he is. If you can tolerate him long enough, you'll be fine. You'll see some changes when his knighthood "quest" kicks in and you'll definitely see changes when it ends.

There are other clerics available to you (Aerie & Viconia) if you really can't stand him. Neither is nearly as strong, physically, as he is. They're good in their own right but like Anomen they, too, have issues and faults.

For the time I had him, I liked him, though, when the whole dead sister thing came up, I advised him to kill Saerk just to see what would happen, then when i realised I screwed up, i saved over the game I thought I was about to load which would have taken me back to right before the decision. I gave up on him then because I hadn't yet done Korgan's quest and I thought Keldorn would be more of a benefit than Anomen whining about getting revenge.

But while he was there he was good, his flamestrike came in handy a few times and his mace crushed a few skulls for me.

I didn't want any evil in this party- thus no Viconia. And I've already run the game with Aerie twice. And she levels too slow. :p

I have no doubt he'll change/improve...that's most of the reason he remains- I wanted to use some different NPCs.

Damn dude, if you're going to complain about that, realize that Anomen can't be a dual classed character (12 WISDOM).

Anyway, I'm growing to like Anomen more and more. He's currently leading up to his knighthood test in my game, and I love his banter with Keldorn. I chose to bring his sister's killer to justice, so I make the LG choice.

Onto Anomen turning CN and attacking the party: I've read that this will only happen if you're a good party. He'll attack Keldorn if he turns CN. I've never witnessed this, I just read it somewhere.

The only reason to pick Anomen is you can't get Biff the Understudy.

Biff was in the original BG if an NPC in your group wasn't present to say what he had to. Confused me A LOT, but I finally figured that out. Heh.

IN BGII, Biff is an actor in Raelis' play in the Five Flagons. I found that very amusing.

Back on topic: I ALWAYS include Anomen in my party; I find him useful. He's my favorite NPC, too. I know a lot of people can't stand him, but I don't think he's annoying, I think he's sweet. Then again, I have an extremely high tolerancy for annoying people...
