ok this is a post to get some opinions on a sword of dragon summoning, that i have made for Baldur's Gate 2 :SOA or TOB, it is essentially just a longsword +2, usable by anyone, and can summon all types of dragons found in BG2. Please feel free to voice your opinions on such a weapon and let me know what you think.

I would have to state my opinion in the form of a rhetorical question: Why make an item that summons the most powerful creatures in the game to be your allies? Wouldn't that ruin the fun?

At it's root it sounds cool I suppose, but it would ruin the fun on the game if your summons do all the fighting for you and believe me, a Dragon would do ALL the fighting. Maybe a Wyvern would be more sensible. If it were a one-time use item, like some kind of holy item or artifact, that would be something. The item being only +2 seems odd too, since you need at least a +3 to hit most dragons. The while idea sounds overpowered and silly to me. Such power should be balanced out with heavy penalties. It's useable by everyone? Blah. I say make it only usable by elves (or whatever), and upon using it they lose a point of CON as a sacrifice to some deity who created the item.

    My nickle.

    Agreements.

I think it might take the fun out of the game, and in 'Roleplay' terms there should be *some* penalties at least.

Overpowerment just doesn't do it for me.

well the only reason i made the sword is because i thought it would be cool to do, it is only the second item i have ever made , and as far as the overpowerment is concerned, yes it is over powered, but it is supposed to be as it is supposed to be a summon item for the mod i am currently helping on, basicly so as to not ruin the plot, because it is not set in stone yet, it is finished product of a dark ritual by a group of evil mages bent on world destruction, domination , and it may never actually get used unless the quest is not completed within the alotted time... and as far as dragons being the most powerful creatures in the game, unmodded game yes, modded game no, a friend of mine made the goddess LLoth which can wipe the floor with a dragon as well as a full party of hi level characters, so i guess it all depends on how and where the sword is used as far as how unbalancing it is,i do happen to like the penalty idea though, i will have to add that in as it is still a work in progress, even tho it is usable as we speak. thanks for the input and anymore would be appreciated.

Jesus - ever heard the term "run-on sentance?" ;)

Good luck with your item and your mod.

Keep in mind that having dragons appear in certain areas can crash the game.

I too must agree that the sword is abit powerful.

perhaps if it could be used only once per week or month or something.

Also, the dragon may crash the game if you summon it in areas where it dont fit.

Perhaps an item that can summon a demi-lich one time? (with penalties of course).

try to make balanced items my friend.
