    [IMG] Hi all,

I installed BG2 and ToB (i also installed the extra merchants) yesterday and started to experiment with it.

I imported my character wich is a plain human fighter level 7 with pretty good stats (Str, Dex, Con, Cha at 19, rest at 10). Spent a lot of time clicking on reroll :)

    Now for my questions...

    - Wich kit should I pick ? Berzerker look nice and for some reason I can't pick Kensai.

    - I think I'll go the dual wield way. Wich weapons would be a good choice ?

    - Beside the vorpal axe in ToB is there any other one handed vorpal weapon ?

    - Was considering the katana. Are the magical ones really that rare ?

    - What would be your suggestions for my party ?

    Thanks a lot !

    Yig

Those stats will certainly make a beefy fighter, but seem a bit overpowered to me.

The reason you can't pick Kensai I guess there is a minimum stat requirement either for int or wis that you don't meet. You might want to consider a ranger if you're really set on Dual Wield destruction.

For dual wield please also do a search, because this has been discussed many times, so lots of good info here already.

As far as Katana's go, in SOA there is Celestial Fury, which is as good a weapon as you could wish for. (Only +3, but the rest makes up for it). Do not specialise too much in Katana though.

Long swords are abundant, scimitars and short swords too, some with very nice bonuses.

Cough, cough, for overpowering totally, you might want to give yourelf the option of *flail* and *hammer* although why you would want to dual wield those two is beyond me, because it pretty much breaks the game for a challenge.

[IMG] Is your character a "chaotic" one ? Kensai must be either of "lawful" or "neutral" alignment.

Oh come on... if you play for the first time its normaly to grab the best weapon that crosses your way. :)
I bet you all did the first time you played it. ;)

And beside flail of ages is too cool to mis if one intents to dualwield (clay golems ;) ).

And for the hammer yeah i agree its too powerful

Apart from Single class Mage types, I bet everyone dual wields!

Points in hammer are cool, but it takes time and exploring to make *that* weapon, so the challenge is there.

For a first timer I would recommend points in dual wielding, longsword and katana and advise the player to visit the guarded compound in the temple district as soon as possible with at least one +2 weapon... I'll say no more - those who have played thru know what I'm talking about...

Once that challenge is overcome you will have a weapon which will probably remain one of your main ones right thru SoA and maybe much of ToB...

Yeah, they are pretty hard to find, and the ones you DO find are usually low level (+1, +2).

I am making a items mod that will include a katana, as well as 9 other cool items. If you'd like, I can make a cool katana for you... :rolling:

IIRC, there are a few nice katanas in WK and elsewhere in ToB, but as far as SoA goes, the only nice katana is Celestial Fury. I won't discuss how to get that.

Personally, I'd take the berserker over the kensai, simply because the berserker can use armor. The kai ability of the kensai isn't as useful as everybody thinks.

I personally prefer to dual longswords, but that's just because I like 'em. Bastard swords are nice (once you actually find some). Flail/Hammer is really overpowered, if you want to play that way, and a certain axe from ToB plus Crom Faeyr would make you basically unstoppable.

    AFAIK, no.

Hmm, do you want a powerhouse party or one with lots of interesting banter? How about this combination (which should give both): PC, Minsc, Valygar, Mazzy, Viccy, and Aerie. In that case, flirt with both elves, and you'll see a number of funny dialogues.

    Hello all,

I srated playing and I'm still in chapter 2 doing the various quests. I got the Celestial Fury. Wow :)

I decided to DW katana and flail. Yes, for the Flail of Ages.

Currently my party is made of Minsc, Keldorn, Yoshi, Aerie and Jaheira. I will replace Keldorn with Imoen (roleplay reason mostly) when I get her back and maybe replace Yoshi with Viccy. But I'm not sure about that yet.

When Imoen get back, has she leveled a few times to catch up with the rest of the party ?

Viking, well yeah it look like it. It's true that I rerolled my stats a lot and I gave all the tomes that increase stats to my hero. But hey, he's supposed to be the son of a god. So it fit.

Hassassin, my char is CG and has bad Int and Wis so that explain it :)

Kitrax, that would be pretty cool :)

Not that it makes much role-play sense, but yes. She'll still prolly be a level or two behind your party though.

Well...that's all up to you. Do you want a really overpowered weapon, or a perfectly balanced weapon?

Here's a link so you can check out some of the items I, and a few other guys at Xan's Keep have made. :rolling:

I would go for something balanced actually. Something that could replace my Celestial Fury once I'm near the end of SoA or when I start ToB. I just started the Underdark (took a small break to play Tactic Ogre on GBA).

Or since Yig is the Father of Serpents you could call the blade Yig's Envoy wich make the wearer immune to poison, add poison damage and maybe increase Con.

Do you know if there is any snake model in the game ?

[IMG] Yes there's one snake model. It's located on the second floor of the Watcher's Keep in the poison Mage laboratory.

Yig...how about this: I'll make a katana meant ONLY for ToB that does 1D10 +5 damage, +5 THAC0, with a 25% chance of poisoning the target...which will do an aditional 1D6 +3 poison damage every round for 4 rounds, unless dispeled. To balance the weapon, I'll make it give -3 to constitution, with a 10% chance of doing 5 points of damage to the weilder. I'll probably toss in a few once a day spells, maybe some resistances...It'll be pretty cool.

I won't be able to start making it untill Sunday, or Monday...but when it's done, I'll post it at Xan's Keep so you can download it there. :rolling:

Personally, I am a fan of the Swashbuckler - give him a kickin' Dex and dual-wielding scimitars and the baddies will have to look out! Drizzt's scimitars are perfect (ac bonus)
