Do they have a good survival chance? I'm planning on giving a go at another no reloads game (when I'm done w/ IWD2), and I think this should be fun.

Anybody ever play one in BG1? Tell me about it!

I did play one in BG1. I tried solo and that was intense. Disabling spells and sling was the only way to go at first.
In a party it is alright. When you hit around level 5 it gets a bit easier though

You should be fine. Remember the sleep spell - and spooks. Still if you plan going to BG2 would I bring a party so planning ahead would be easier.

You really really will need sleep spell in BG1. Sleep is the king. No self-respecting sorcerer in BG2 would choose sleep but in BG1 it is an entirely different matter.

Personally I can not stand to play a sorcerer as they have so little spell selection. I like the versatility and fun factor my wild mage brings up more. But that's just me.

Sorcerers will lag behind mages in terms of spell level in BG1, which is bad. For example at lvl 5 you still won't be able to cast 3rd lvl spells. This is one of the reasons why a sorcerer in BG1 does not sound like a good idea to me. Plus you can not have a familiar, choosing the spell would be very...useless as you will never cast it again.

Most challenging game I have ever played was a partial run with a sorceress. Agreed: Sleep rules, and any disabling/defensive spells beyond that are the spice you add on - and you need tanks to protect you.

This is on vanilla EasyTutu_ToB with BG1NPC and some BG2 Tweaks - if you have SCS installed, you may be in for a rough ride. The targeting AI is adjusted, so you just got fixed in the crosshairs of most of the enemy that is intelligent enough to recgnize that the pretty girl gesturing with her hands and making funny sounds is actually the Primary Target...

    hats off to DarkStrike - I couldn't survive a solo sorceror/ess run.

I played a solo sorcerer in a no reload game with SCS installed and mastered 95% of the game until an unfortunate SCS-bug (By now eliminated!) made short work of my poor little sorcerer. Actually, it isn't that hard - if you choose the right spells, that is. I have to disagree with the previous posters - don't pick Sleep, it won't help that much in case you plan to go solo. No, I'm not kidding you...

I recommend the following spells (beside the usual suspects like Magic Missile, Mirror Image and so on):

    - Invisibility: Crucial. You do not want to kill every gibberling and xvart in the game, instead walk right past them. Invisibility allows you to choose your fights very carefully and to travel undisturbed (In an older TUTU-version the monster spawns were always maximized, so it was even more important then.).

    - Spider Spawn: Pretty tough summons in BG1, especially when hasted. Very few foes survive the onslaught of five hasted phase spiders.

    - Haste: Primarily used to speed up the summons, but it is usually very helpful to be able to outrun the enemies.

    - Web: Hasted spiders + one or two webs = extremely dead enemies...

    - Protection from Petrification

    How to use:

As hinted above you stay invisible most of the time. To level up quickly, buy a few thousand darts and march to Mutamin's garden (the basilisk area), cast PfP and kill a basilisk with your darts and MMs, recast PfP, kill a basilisk and repeat until there are no more. It's dull and takes a bit of time - but you know what I always say? "All is fair in love, war and no reload games", that's what I always say. Keep hunting slower monsters (especially basiliks, ghasts and ettercaps), until you reach level 8. You will run. A lot.

After that you'll let your spiders do the fighting for you. Summon some, haste them, set them loose on the enemy and keep out of sight - this will work in 95% of your battles. In case you have SCS installed, keep ALWAYS out of sight of the enemy.

Good ideas - I will have to try them. I used NPCs instead of summoned spiders, cast Sleep nstrad of Invisibility, and found things very, very tough. Invisibility combined with summons... gonna have to try that.
