I liked Shadows of Amn more, but I feel it isn't complete without Throne of Bhaal.....

I prefer Shadows of Amn the game with Throne of Bhaal installed, but as for TOB itself, well I am not too fussed...

[IMG] I like them both equally :rolling:

Shame there wasn't more in ToB though.

I agree with Cesard, ToB is too linear and gets boring after a couple of games.

Yeah it gets boring really fast. I could only finish it the first time.

I saw pretty much all the interesting quests in Athkatla after one completed campaign and one half-completed campaign, not to mention that I know all the lines by heart and doing said quests is exactly the same every time, so there's not much of interest there. Throne of Bhaal, on the other hand, is over very fast (at least it has the coolness of Abazigal and Balthazar. You should all download Ascension, if you haven't already :) ), a point in its favor, but is light on storyline and a lot of the fights are way too hard. Meh.

Has anyone with a modding background thought of replacing TOB? I have seen several SOA total conversions, but no TOB total conversions. Is there a reason for this?

I've been doing some modding and a total conversion for TOB should be much easier than SOA as all the NPC's and items are already in place.

And who hasn't thought they could do a better plot than TOB??

The idea has been discussed many times. Total Conversions are stupidly time-consuming to do and seeing as how we don't make any money off of mods, we can't spare all the time in the world to do them.

What you are describing is not a total conversion.

Well, IIRC there's Return to Trademeet TC which is a mod that features the journey after the ToB

I like ToB a bit more, even thouh it's so much shorter than SoA. ToB is better a little better at everything compared to SoA... :rolling:

    @ Rastor

I meant the characters (i.e. NPC's) and the items they have when they enter the game are already present. Unlike, for example DTLC where all NPC's, items, GUI etc. all have to be created from scratch. As several SOA total conversions have been started, I found it strange noone had gone for the easier route of a TOB conversion.

It was the first thing that leapt to my mind in the fevered minutes after reading the WeiDU readme: "Wow, I understand .d files! I can code ANYTHING!!"

ahem. Suffice to say cold reality set in soon enough.

TOB is OK, but it is... well, it all happened too fast.

In SOA, chapters 4,5-7 happened very, very fast, too, but after chapter 2 and chapter 3 it was rather a blessing. And they were filled with lots of emotion: Drow, soul loss, Irenicus, the Bitch Queen Ellesime and so on.

In TOB, Melly is boooring. Watcher's Keep is great for powergamers (hey, I played it over a hundred times!), but in the role-playing sense there's nothing. Sendai and Abazigail are "just another monsters", and honestly, Yaga-Shura wasn't worth the fuss.

Ascention and Tactics didn't improve the things for me: if anything, they only made it worse, turning BG into improved Diablo.

So, I choose SOA all the way. :) TOB with Longer Road installed could contest it, I suppose, but as mods were not mentioned in the poll, it's SOA.

They're both OK. SoA IS the differentiating experience that makes people love BGII so much - the non-linearity, the Imoen quest, the NPC quests, the stronghold quests etc. ToB is OK, especially Watcher's Keep which is fun, but at that stage of the game, your character is at such a high level that levelling up is no longer fun, which takes away some the excitement of the game. Plus there are far too many uberpowered items in ToB.
