[IMG] sorry to seem so candid, but sometimes dual-classing  gets me confused, despite all the info in these forums!

So my question. I have a Swashbuckler and want him to be able to use axes eventually (just for some theme party roleplaying purpose). I'll dual him fighter. When his Swashbucler abilities return, will he still have the swashbuckler thaco and AC bonuses (the -1 you get for each 5 levels)? So let's say I dual @ level 10, will he eventually have -2 AC as he did as a Swashbuckler? That could make for an awesomely low AC.
    Thanks

yeah, once you hit level 11 as a fighter in your example, or 1 level above your thief level when you dual, you'll get all your thief abilities back (ie. the -2 to AC and to hit bonuses)

Yes, he will still have the swashbuckler thaco and AC bonuses. I have a Swashbuckler _fighter dualed at 5th level. She Rooocked :rolling: . So I tried one dual-classed at 10th level, :smash: , until I got far in ToB. Her lack of hitpoints were a concern, but man she could chop enemies up fast  . Later, I dual-classed one at 16th level, OMG!!!. Most foes fell before they new what hit them! But her lack of hitpoints kept her from being a tank. When equipt right this duel class is awsome at what it does.

No, -3 actually. (Don't forget that they get -1 at creation, in addition to -1 every five levels.) Swash->Fighter is one of the best melee builds, with the lower HP offset by the lower AC making you hard to hit. That doesn't matter much in ToB, though, and you'll need someone else to absorb the blows while the S->F dices up your enemies.

The bonuses I received as a Swashbuckler has been at level 6 and 11, not levels 5 and 10.

Then you have a mod that does that. In the unmodded game, the hit, damage, and AC bonuses are gotten at 5, 10, 15, etc., while the traps (Set Snare) are gained at 6, 11, 16, etc.

okay, i've been inspired by this thread to create my own swashbuckler -> fighter at level 10 and I rolled the best stats that I've ever had afaik.

Ender (I'm reading Ender's Game now, awesome!)
    NE
    str: 18
    dex: 18
    con: 18
    int: 11
    wis: 11
    cha: 16

This char can wear the human flesh armor even after dualling, right? Also, stupid question, but, say at char creation of the swashbuckler, I place 1 star in long swords. When I dual to fighter and place 4 out of 5 stars in long sword, when I get my thief abilities back will I have 5 stars in long sword?

Nope, proficiency points are carried across when you regain the first class's abilities, but they do not *stack* with points gained in the second class.

But after you get your swashie levels back you can slowly put 5 stars in that point yesh?

Enagonios, I'm sure that this won't be an attractive option, but if you can actually hold off on levelling up as a fighter until you have enough x.p. to surpass your swashie levels then you'll be able to add any weapon proficiency slots (except for those gained as a 1st level fighter) to your swash proficiencies. Rather difficult if you're soloing, but not too bad if you have a party & they're picking up the slack for you.

I think I'll just put all my 1st level points as a fighter into another weapon and use that first, until I can get enough points in long sword as well.

question though. lets say I've already had my level 10 level up as a swashie, can I hold off on levelling up until I do some stuff (like the thieves' guild quests) and then level up and dual to fighter so that all the "extra" points that were past the level 10 swashie requirement will now be available for the fighter?

Not legally, no. Any extra x.p. that you accrue goes to the first class and is lost once you dual-class. Using Shadowkeeper is another matter.

hmm, that sucks. okay, thanks for the answers. one last thing, how long is the in-game clock interval before each stronghold quest?

As a general rule of thumb, a week between each stronghold subquest; however, there may be small differences for different strongholds.

So basically, if you want to dual, but not loose any of your abilities (and thus continue in your current class and not level up for aaaaaaaages untill you have enough to reach your current level in your new class) can you wait and then as soon as you dual be able to use both classes, because you have enough xp to continue on or does ALL the xp go away once you dual?

No, as Desuma Malevois said. Say your first class level you want to reach is 100000 exp, and you've got 100287 exp. You level up, you choose to dual-class. Your first class' experience is set to 100000, and you second class starts off with 0 exp.

[IMG] Thanks, that's a lot of helpful info.
Not sure if I should dual at level 7 (to get some fighter HP) or 10 to get another point of AC.
