Okay, I apologise if this is covered elsewhere. I am kindof pressed for time as of late and playing BG2 is not helping any( :) ).

I have simply had it up to *here* with having to endure Korgan's/Jaheria's periodic "Let me repeat the samew story/melodrama and you better sit through it again(click the approipriate responses in order) or I will leave the party!" crap!
It is bad enough that i went through the whole Viconia romance thing to see what all teh fuss was about only to be WAY disapointed!

Is there an easy way to turn off these banters without screwing anything up?

Well, since one of the main resons for having NPC's is the banters, you could always just drop them and replace them with self-created characters in multi-player. (I realize this doesn't really answer your question, but not being helpful is what I do best! :p )

RuneQuester - you are the first person I've encountered who agrees with me that banter is a pain. Everyone else seems to love the banter but I agree it it gets tedious pretty quickly. But, like Splunge, my post does not really answer your question (just provides a bit of moral support).

@Splunge - I disagree that banter is the reason for having RPC party members and multiplayer games are a pain because of the way that save/re-load works(having to recheck every character before reloading a save in particular). Also see below.

@Harbourboy - Thanks and I totally agree. It would not be so bad if they only said whatever they had to say ONCE and/or did not require you to click through a chain of ordered responses to keep them from splitting on you in the middle of a fight.

But this is ridiculous! How often does Korgan think that we want to hear how he butchered his previous party before joining up with me? How often must Jaheira go off on the party requiring me to coddle her with teh same emotionally comforting line about remembering loved ones?

I just wish I could have been sitting in on the designers' meeting when someone piped up with "...oh yeah and we should have Korgan repeat the story every 'X' number of days and if the player does not click the same "Please tell us the tale Korgan!" responses, he will LEAVE!".

I would have punched him in the mouth.

Ironically, I was reading someone's notes/guide on 'Who to include in your party and why.' wherein they reported that Jan Jansen was the most useless NPC ever because of his turnip stories. Hell, one of the chief reasons Jan is STILL IN my party is because his turnip stories are a LOT less annoying than Korgan's "I slaughtered my whole party" crapfest!

In Jagged Alliance 2(Modern mercenary squad-based tactical RPG) all of the recruitable NPCs also have their own 'banters' and they are wonderful! Unique, in character and downright hillarious!
But none of these banters require you to click through a series of multiple choice responses to keep them from splitting and they do not generally repeat anything more verbose than a one sentence, situation specific standard.
JA 2 is generally considered to be the standard by which RPGs with recruitable PCs are measured as far as 'banters' are concerned.

If you want to play with a created party but don't want to go through the multiplayer thing (checking all the characters every load), then just create your party, save, and move the game from the multiplayer folder to the single player folder (mpsave and save iirc). No banters, a party you like, and you don't have to click lots of buttons every load.

There must be a bug in your game. Never has any charecter repeated the same story twice in my games. Aerie's whining all sound the same, yet there too was some variation.
Do you have the Banter Accelerator installed? Perhaps that is what is causing you the pain. Though, again, it works perfectly for me.

To save a multiplayer game as a single player game all you need to do is save the game with a unique name (quick-save and auto-save wont work) in multiplayer and then transfer the game into singleplayer saves folder.
When you start the game and Imoen releases the PC from prison, free all the others from their cages and then create your save.

[IMG] iirc the Jaheira bug can be fixed with one of the patches on SP, the Korgan one might be fixed with the same one - I have that problem with him sometimes I usually end up just changing his file so he shuts u. It's because it doesn't register that's conversation has already happened

Just have a look to see if there are any patches that deal with Korgan, only advice I can give, I'm afraid.

Hmmm...thanks guys. It had not occured to me that this might be a bug. I do not have any mods aside from Song and Silence currently installed and I believe the only patches I have are the official Bioware ones and whatever would have been required for S&S as per that mod's readme.

I am not one of those people who looks for and installs every mod or fan-created patch(I am probably overly paranoid about such and very picky about what mods I bother with. There are about three or four I will even bother with including TuTu and S&S).

Will check it out and thanks again.

Song and Silence will not affect banters in any way. :)

As a previous poster mentioned, they shouldn't repeat themselves. Though you've got the patch, so, I'm not sure what's up. It may be they're not repeats and are just talks along similar lines.

For the "romance" NPCs there is normally an option to tell them to shut up in the early stages of the dialogues.

@ Andyr- won't that break the romances?

I like the idea of creating mp games and then going to sp. I will have to try that.

I found out that it IS a bug but the only patch I found that addressed this was teh SP fixpack and it is only available for NON-TOB installed BG2(SoA only) games. As far as I can tell this should not even be happening with ToB installed and patched with the latest Bioware patch.

    Strange.

I even tracked down and applied the Baldurdash fixes but it seems they are not even patching my game as they should be. The Baldurdash fixpack is supposed to, for example, fix the bug wherein some of the loot in Watcher's Keep(a +2 Halberd specifically) is flagged as "fenced goods" and thus cannot be sold to merchants but when I try to sell the +2 halberd, I still get the "I don't buy fenced goods. Give me something else." message.

Is it as I fear that many fixes from patches are not going to register until I start a new game?

    *Sigh*

Oh well...I am pretty used to restarting BG by now I guess.

The Baldurdash fixpack only affects a game created after its installation. Only the SPFixpack affects a game already in progress.

    So yeah, restart :)
Are you using the S&S for the various thief class abilities? In that case you should also check out the Apack mod.

Well, yeah, but I was under the impression the original poster didn't want NPC dialogues.

Also, Shrikant: I thought the SP Fixpack was SoA only, so if the poster has ToB they shouldn't use it.

At the Gibberlings Three we are currently preparing a comprehensive fixpack, including all the fixes from other fixpacks (e.g. Baldurdash, which is no longer maintained by its creator) and other bugs which have since been reported. So when that's out there will be only the one you need. That should work fine in an existing game, too.

    @Shrikant

I downloaded and installed S&S mostly to check out the new kits and secondarily for all the other stuff. When I start a new game I will definately be playing a Bard as my main or if I go the MP- create your own party route I will have a Bard adn a thief adn utilse all that S&S has to offer. I was impressed by S&S in a way that I was NOT impressed by other similar mods(like the Warrior kitpack) which tend to add kits that either don't make sense, have no precedent in heroic fantasy, and/or serve no real purpose/function.

    @Andyr

You are correct that I could give a damn about the romances being broken and will do everything possible to shut off banters as much as I can when I start a new game. At least the stuff that requires you to repeatedly click through specific dialogue options in order to keep a member from splitting(I want to enjoy Minsc's comical lines, just not Jaheira/Imoen/Nalia/Korgan's irritating repeated ramblings).

Good news about the comprehensive fixpack. I will look for it with baited breath.

To turn off banter, enable your console (there are explanations of this elsewhere). Activate your console by pressing CTRL + SPACE in the game.

    type: CLUAConsole:BanterBlockFlag(1)

in the console. All banter will now be disabled.

If you want to fix your banter, I think Kelsey or WeiDU (the actual modding tool itself) comes with a fix for Korgan and Viconia that will work on a game that has already started. Or maybe it was Tactics. If you have broadband just download them all :)
