So I've recently started Watcher's Keep and I've basically hit a road block. I'm in the second room where you can't use magic and you have to fight three of the monsters you saw in the earlier room plus a pit fiend. Here's my party layout:

    PC - Gnome, Fighter/Illusionist 10/11
    Minsc - 12
    Jan - Illusionist/Thief 11/13
    Aerie - 11/11

Is this party too weak for Watcher's Keep? I'm having loads of trouble. Please, if you attempt to give hints, no spoilers please! Thanks.

    2 Illusionist ???

Minsc 1st and only tank ???

Maybe if you made SoA with this party everyone should be 5 level higher.

Anyway, with this party (hot with magic) I wish you a nice day your anti-magic room. ;)

Hmm. I haven't played WK for a while - I went through twice and that was enough for me. IIRC, the room before the 'dead magic zone' is normal(?) and you might try casting your buffs in there, then skipping through.

I know I'm not much help. Heh, at least I'm not outright giggling about it like *some* people. :p I usually take heavy hitters or people who can hold their own if something comes a smacking. Picking up another tank might be good, except you're pretty well in the middle of it, right?

Minsc will probably go melee, yes? Buff him as well as you can - Armor of Faith, Barkskin, potions of speed and strength, Prot. from Evil, the best weapon he can wield and armor he can wear.

For you're spellcasters, through everything at these hellish minions. Doom, Chromatic Orb, Melf's Acid Arrow, Magic Missile, Silence 15' and the kitchen sink. Anything to get their saves lowered and/or shut them up. Is there an Erinyse(sp) or a Succubus? Those are the big problems. These two gals will be throwing the same, low-level spells at you and you *will* fail. Take out those two first.

My best advice is to reload from a save where you aren't so progressed. I have an archive save before I talk to anyone there, in case something goes horribly wrong (it usually does.) Get more levels under your belts and another NPC if you want. I suggest Keldorn for his Inquisitor abilities - True Sight and Dispel Magic. This isn't much, but I hope it helps in some way!

Well I managed to get through that room, no thanks to any tanking ability of Minsc's. I just ran through it. The rest of the level was easy, especially the gambling cambion. I might go back and try it now. I've done every quest I can think of, killed Kangaxx, and killed Twisted Rune. It might be nice to have Watcher's Keep under my belt before I go to spellhold. My PC is 12/13 right now, almost 13/13 (approximately 2.5 million experience). I drew the 1 million experience card from the deck of many things and managed to get Spectral Brand too. I'll tell you all how it works out. :)

Well I haven't done Spellhold yet and the Underdark holds a lot of experience, as we all know. But maybe I'm forgetting a quest. Here's the ones I've done.

    Circus Tent
    Trademeet
    Planar Sphere
    Windspear Hills
    Umar Hills
    De'Arnise Hold
    Tanner Murders
    Planar Prison
    Unseeing Eye
    Slaver Stockade
    Thieves' Guild
    Guarded Compound
    Twisted Rune
    Kangaxx
    Half of Watcher's Keep

It seems about right to me. I'm almost at the SoA experience cap as it is. Did I miss any big ones?

You may be too low for now. Remember that you can leave through doors on each level and return to the same level at a later time. Minsc is extremely low level for your group -- he should certainly be higher before tackling the lower levels of WK. I'd recommend continuing with the SoA game and come back to WK after the underdark.

Difficulty in Watcher's Keep fluctuates, according to the level of the party. The hard battles will be against the several bosses scattered in the area - you won't be getting any edge against them. In any case, you can always return to finish them off later. Looking at your party right now I think you should be able to finish everything in the keep.
All you need are tactics, luck, a little creativity and a lot of patience.

Well I just finished Improved Saughin City (I guess I decided not to finish Watcher's Keep yet) and it was a breeze. All my characters just hit 3 million experience and with the way they run over everything else, I think I could finish it. I'm considering skipping most of the Underdark and going straight back, unless I can think of any loot I particularly need.

If all of your characters have 3 million xp, you'll be fine. I do strongly recommend that you've got two tanks, though.
