Cheats - How do I open console?

    I have cheat guides from this site and others for bg2, but they always say to open the console and mess with the directory and whatnot... but I really have no idea how to do this.

    It's different in other games, just press Enter and then the code. Can someone explain how to cheat in simple language?

    "Now start the game and open the console prompt by pressing Ctrl and the space bar. Console cheats must be entered exactly as they are written below."
