Okee...I just bought BG1 because I had never got to play it before and I loved BG2 and the IWD series. I was talking to poeple on the BG bioware forum and I found about TUTU, a mod that let you play BG through the BG2 engine.Sounded great, and people made BG graphics sound quite primitive. I got my copy of BG today...installed it and sat there wondering why exactly I would want to change the graphics. IN FACT...I find the graphics alot closer, easy too see, and vivd.I know facial features are pretty limited in BG2 but you can make out what litte there is alot easier in BG than in BG2.

So what the heck do I do here? Perhaps its just the resolution that i'm using that I find more comfortable? I'm just thinking that now and mayby I should decrease the resolution in BG2 to make it bigger and see if there is a difference. If it is simply the resolution should I still use TUTU or will the diference in graphics not be very significant?

It's because bg1 runs on a lower resolution itself...
It's mainly a matter of taste, Felinoid from the forums here also prefer classical bg1, and my recommendation is that you play classical bg1 first, it's also an experience in itself.

The difference in graphics will be significant.

I thought the main reason for getting tutu was not the graphics but the ability to play BG1 using BG2 rules. For example, you could play as a Kensai or a Monk.

If you do want Tutu without changing the graphics, the closest thing you can get is to install TutuGUI, which is a Tutu mod which restores the interface back to the BG1 look. But what it won't do is change the whole look back. I toyed with the idea of doing it myself, but decided against it. Ultimately, it is a matter of preference though; if you like the BG1 look, stick with it.

To me, that's just a bonus. I mainly prefer tutu because I hate the low resolution bg1 runs with.

So sorry for posting in the wrong place =P

So basically I could have BG2's resolution set up more like BG1's default? But...with that I could also have BG1 run with TUTU slightly improving graphics and giving me some of those minor BG2 rule bonuses...but still stay at its same resolution?I'll have to play with this when I get home...I got both installed so its good. But it dosnt matter as I now know I could really enjoy BG1 just the way it is.

Aye, that you could... Just set it to the lowest resolution possible (I don't know if it's quite as low as the one bg1 uses, though it most be darn close).

If you do not mislike the BG I graphics after you played BGII then you should play it normally.

After that you could try out tutu.

Play BG 1 without the Tutu or any mods. All I ever thought would be useful for me from Tutu is the graphic change to allow for two quick weapon slots for certain multiclasses - M/T, F/M/T, C/T. Oh, and using the ALT or TAB key (can't recall which offhand) to find hidden objects.

It sounds to me like you should just stick with BG1 and not bother with TUTU.

I tried TUTU and just found it to be overpowering. BG1 wasn't designed for Avenger Druids and Half-Orc Berzerkers to be running around. It wrecks the game, IMO.

Better to just stick with good old fashioned BG1. Use that character in BG2 if you like, at which point you can choose a kit, dual-wield, etc.

No, for me the main reason is the graphics, the Tab key, and the ability to stay paused on the inventory screen. Oh, and the Baldur's Gate II rules.
