[IMG] Ok, while testing different stuff in the fight against demogorgon, Extremist and I where discussing tactics and weapons.

and then, black blade of disaster will probably put a mage in danger, but, a thief?

so I tested it, and thieves can indead use scrolls, so everyone, go buy that black blade of disaster scroll, and backstab someone with it! Or make a fighter/thief use it, with greater whirlwind and assasination skill.

10 saves vs disintegration pr round should get any foe (ofcourse if you hit with each attack)

I though of that tactic a while ago, but never really put it to good use. Anything with enough hitpoints to not be splattered all over the walls during a whirlwind attack probably has something worth keeping, and chances are if they are disintegrated, it'll go, too :(

I don't assume you need any more stuff, especially not in the last battle ;)

and it's a pretty high save after all, but the healing of 20hp sounds good too(10% I think)

    Good point.

On the topic of destroying items by killing mobs in a particular way, what is the rule? I'm going through the game again, and I killed the shadow dragon by taking it's resistances down, dooming it a few times, and hitting it with a chromatic orb. I was only level 11 at the time, so the dragon was petrified. However, when I smashed it, it still had the Crom Faeyr scroll on it, but not the gems and scales it usually has (needless to say, I reloaded and killed it again without petrifying it).

some items are considered "unique", this is often quest related items. And these items can't be destroyed or disappear if you leave them on the ground.

though I don't understand why Crom Faeyr scroll is considered to be one of these items. (I have experienced the same situation with the scroll myself)

Exactly - it was the Crom Faeyr scroll bit which threw me. I mean, it is sort of part of a quest (i.e. you can have Cromwell forge it for you), but so are the Shadow Dragon Scales it drops (which ARE destroyed). I guess there is a flag, and the designers decided for whatever reasons that they'd do some non-crucial things and not others.

I suppose that if you are looking at it from an RP point of view, it makes sense that the scales would be destroyed with the rest of the dragon. And seeing as it was only guarding the scroll, that shouldnt be destroyed with it. Unfortunately the same would hold true for the gems but it doesnt so thats my theory out the door lol

What would happen if you imprisoned someone holding the Flail of Ages or the Crom Faeyr Scroll? Would the item(s) drop on the ground or vanish? Just curious.

    Nice new topic icons... *hihi*

    [IMG] Woohoo! I hadn't noticed these :D

Anyway, any items like the ones you just mentioned will go to your main characters inventory should they be inprisoned AFAIK.

[IMG] ... and thieves rule the more ;) :D

I had Alora, my halfling pure thief with use all item ability dealing aout some 250 damage in a single hit using the black blade of disaster for backstabbing a firegiant.

A marvellous combination, congratulations. I actually used it on this annoying firegiant mage in yaga-shura's lair in combination with time trap and assassination and while timetrap allowed me to attack with impunity, the black blade was kinda disappointing (I needed for hits too finish him off, fortunately I had the gaunts of improved weapon mastery equipped). Usa all item ability is *very* powerful :)

Yeah... if traps and massive backstabs didn't tip the scales in favour of thieves, UAI sure did. Have you ever seen the AC on a lvl 25 swashbuckler in full plate? Add a shield, too, if you want to... Or for an even better AC, a blade in a defensive spin wearing full plate (again, with a shield if you like). You'll only be getting hit on crits...

Needless to say, when I play a game in which I create all the characters, at least half the party is some kind of thief (I usually like to take 1 MC F/T, 1 DC Kensai/Thief, and 1 Swashbuckler). I can't imagine the damage a kensai/thief must inflict with the BBoD.

Someone also pointed out (sorry, can't remember who, but the credit is yours, whoever you are ;) that backstabbing in iron golem form (through use of shapeshift) hurts just a wee bit, too (what, with a base damage of 4D10).

Can cleric/thieves backstab in conjunction with "Harm"?

Oh, and does anyone know if the +9 damage on the staff of striking is applied before or after the multipler is applied? (Yes, I'm almost certain you can backstab with quarterstaves, as silly as it might sound).
