Hide in Shadows vs. Move Silently

Which one is more important?

EDIT: Nevermind. It seems that when I put points into Hide in Shadows, I always fail, but when I put points into Move Silently, the skill works most of the time.

Hide in Shadows determines your chance to actually go invisible when you hit the hide button.

Move Silently is the skill which is checked every subsequent round to see if you maintain the invisibility or become visible again.

 

I know that's how it should work, but I don't think that's how it really is implemented.

 

Interesting. Gotta try it. Maybe a bug? Don't anybody have an idea about this?

 

Move silently sucks. stack hide instead.

 

Here's a solution for you: GET BOTH! It's not like there aren't a ton of items that will increase your abilities.

 

P.cloak from sola, or elven cloak. but move is second suckiest thing in the game(first is infravision spell)

 

The best explanation is that hide in shadows = get invisible and move silently = stay invisible. Try making a thief with no points in hide and 100% move silently. I guarantee he'll suck worse than my vacuum cleaner on a sunday morning.

 

Drew, that's what I thought too. I'm trying to tell you that I tried this, and I hid all of the time. When I put all my points in HS and none in MS, I never hid!

 

what I did:
I used Jan to hide, and he got 100+ in HIS. and never put any in MS. and hiding 99% worked without failure

 

@Chickavalier:
Did you move Jan around? (As in, silently.) Maybe Hide in Shadows is checked when you're stationary, and Move Silently is checked when you're moving around.

 

@ Klorox: try that with a thief with 14 dex in broad daylight. It won't work so well that way!
