All battles in BG2 are easy. Even with a standard party they can be tackled with ease.

IWD2, now, is another deal...

 

I'll be honest that party on the sewers (with the dwarf who demand money) have OWNED me each and every time I go thorugh the game. I always forget that they are there adn typcially you'll be at lvl 10 or something at that stage - they are tough!

First time I ever stumbled into the Twisted Rune too - thought I'd never ever finish the game.

 

Un-modded: that insta-gib trap in Spellhold. Other than that, can't remember.

 

First time I played through I got owned in the first dungeon. Thats right. I wasn't paying attention and walked over the traps and than open the door with the Vampire and next thing I know my guys are all dead. Talk about a quick and easy death.

The firkrag (dragon form) laid a whoppin on my *ss, yet so did every lich.
Modded, I'd have to go with the last battle of Baronius's Grey Clan 2. You'll have to play the mod to find out what I mean (a very good mod)

My hardest battle was in Watcher's Keep, the floor before you get to demogorgon. The bit when you have a Marilith, The Huntress etc. all out for your guts. I died straightaway. Ironically, as my weakest character, Aerie survived the onslaught...dunno how she managed that. Probably because she was hiding behind the portal

 

In the unmodded game, I actually managed to beat most "boss battles" on my first try due to weird stuff happening:

Draconis whips me around for a while and somehow my Resist Fear gets dispelled so my main character runs away. Draconis chases and kills Aerie at the very top of the screen so I can wait until the Fear wears off and then Resurrect my entire party (all 5 characters but my PC died sans Aerie) reequip and charge back in. Same thing also happened with the party in front of Demogorgon and the Twisted Rune. I fight for a while, basically die and come back with a vengenace (and Tree of Life Irenicus got killed by Valygar who returned after being Mazed in the 2nd round or so).

As for who whupped me bad...

Has to be the first group of vampires I fought. I didn't realize they would Level Drain you so I got a vamp-shadow theif encounter right after leaving and attacked the vampires. They destroyed me 8 battles in a row (I completely ignored NPP) before I just ran away. Hated vampires since then.

Boy, can I relate. I fought that battle a couple of times, closed down the game, and opened up the manual. I then made myself a list of all the buffs and summons that I wanted to use, and then I ordered the list by duration. I was able to win after that It tought me a lot about the game.

 

@Olimikrig: I crapped my pants before I even entered the last portal (I'm paranoid as hell and I hate these "you go kill this dude, it won't be that hard!"-kinda quests).

However after having gotten Yaga Shura's heart (and before returning it to his mother) I decided to have a go at it anyways, so I went down and said to myself "okay, no buffs, just see what happens and you can prepare aftwerwards..." - I wasn't expecting the ability to have the false helmites killed, though, so I grabbed it
After that, I buffed up totally, summoned 1 planetar (was counting on it to be slain by a death spell and then summoning the rest) and went down and totally owned him - not one character died (Viccy, Edwin and Jan with crappy HP, so I was surprised)

After that, I went to deliver Yaga's heart and got just as totally owned by his mother

Recently my getting owned was By Draconis and then Melissan the third time you face her(After the Ice Elementals) I had to reload from my final save and rearrange my spells before I finally got through her. After that though I was disappointed with her final fight.

I haven't used any Mod's though.
