How do you get Improved Chaos Shield* in Shadows of Amn? Does it automatically appear when you can cast level 7 spells? If you make a wild mage in ToB, you can chose Improved Chaos Shield, but how would you acquire that spell in SoA?

[IMG] i guess you only have normal chaos shield and reckless dweomer until you actually get to ToB, cos ive only ever played in SoA with one.

    still, randomness is fun!!!

Methinks this ought to have been posted in ToB forum.

(Yes I know you're talking about SoA, but the ToB forum also includes SoA *with* ToB installed.)

Improved Chaos Shield should be available in your spellbook from the start of SoA but in unpatched installations it only appears if you start a ToB game.

Conclusion: you need to download and apply the patch. This wiil add Improved Chaos Shield to your spellbook (even fixing it retro-actively, which doesn't apply to most fixes in the patch.)

I think Wild Mages are only good for ToB, SoA just doesn't keep them well

Extremist, ToB installed or not, I refuse to believe you haven't seen one. On the way back from the underdark? While carrying a certain blade and its hilt? Hmm?

[IMG] Wild mages are the best!!

The Improved Chaos Shield is there all along in your spellbook, jsut check for it!! And when you reach level 7, you can cast it.

its like when you can only cast level 1-5 spells, and you Write Scroll from a level 6 spell. It appears on your spellbook, you just cant memorize it yet!"!

    simple.

Is the improved shield so great anyway? It just gives an extra +10 bonus on the wild surge chart compared to the basic shield, while being five levels higher. I could come up with a lot more interesting seventh level things.

Gonzago - that encounter is only when you have ToB installed...

When you do not have ToB installed, its a different fight, and no wild mage will appear... just a couple of Githyanki Warriors and a different dialogue to boot too.
