Now these Stone Golems can cast Golem Slow which gives a hefty penalty to opponents AC and THAC0. What I found out /the haaaaard way/ is that multiple castings of Golem slow seem to stack... I find it to be quite unfair.

Consider this - my fighter has an AC of -8. After being hit with slow his AC rises to -4, after the next application to 0, then 4,.... all the way to AC=16 when I decided to retreat from the fray... My THACO at that point was something like 44...

Is that supposed to be so? I mean spells like GM do not stack, afaik...

Anyone can set me straight on this one?

sometimes that's not so easy. For example I had situations where I lead an Adamantium Golem in a door trap and those stupid stone golems are crowding behind the big guy and all the time casting slow... annoying? You bet!

Golems ARE annoying, I'm not going to deny that. What I will say is that they are quite easy to take care of if you know what to do. In the case of Adamantine golems, you need +3 or better weapons to do damage. They can get stuck behind doors and so on quite easily... so summoning monsters (like Mordenkainen's, which you will probably have by the time you face these creatures) and then whacking them with Lower Resistance and lots of spells will clear them pretty quickly. You can also use traps, which work quite well due to the size of the things. Golems tend to come in groups, however, so I would suggest the following:
    1) If you know there are golems around, then lay traps near to where they are. If you don't have a thief who's good with traps, then don't, obviously.
    2) Try to block them off. This really does make Adamantine/Iron golem fights a doddle, as then you can...
3)... do what I recommended earlier and start smacking them with spells. Once their resistance is low they fall quite easily to Fingers of Death, I think, as their saves aren't too great.
    4) Once the big metal golems are down, the smaller ones are a little easier. They still have MR though, so casting spells on them won't be very useful. Just swarm them with as many buffed fighters and summons as possible and cast free action or give the ring of free action to any frontline fighters that go toe-to-toe. Free action should take care of any of your golem slow related worries
    Hope all this helps!

    Another approach (cheesy) :

Let the 'big' golem block the doorway, and then retreat out of reach. Kill the small ones behind it with ranged weapons. Then kill the last (big) one. Viola.

I agree that the stacking penalties majorly suck. That's when invisibility comes in really handy--disappear for a while, then come back when you're ready to try again. The nice thing about golems, unless you have tactical mods installed, is that none of them are resistant to cloudkill if you cast it from a wand.

I recently found out something nice about the Iron and Adamantine golems. If you bottleneck them so they can't move you can attack and hurt them with a staff or polearm from a distance far enough that they can't hit you and their gas cloud attack won't touch you. Sadness :D

[IMG] For the adamantine golems i found that if you block them in a trap door and use the azuredge from a distance (damage 1 or 2) it may take some time but the ***** will die and the slow spells from the stone golems won't reach you. After that just crush the rest golems down they are not so hard. Just don;t use arrows and if you are equipped with the flail of the ages that's better for you. Or a war hammer +2 or the +1 +4 against giantkin. I hope these will help you.

Well, how do you think Tor Gaal feels when you keep whacking and slowing him with the Flail of Ages? (I've noticed that the 'slow' effect of the FOA seems to stack).

TorGal drops one of the pieces of the FoA, so how do you use it against him? He's already dead by the time you get the weapon.

Err... not quite, you get the first part on the 1st floor, 2nd from Glaicas, 3rd in Golem Chapel. It's very much possible to kill TorGal with complete FoA, I think...

Torgal doesn't have the third part of the flail of ages in the official BG II, only in one of the mods. So if you haven't got the mod installed you can use the +3 flail against him.
