I'm just curious as to how everybody actually plays this rather entertaining class?

I've been thinking about playing one for a long time, but i don't know how to utilize his wild magic to the maximum. Do i play him like a regular wizard, or do i use Chaos Shield and the like along with nashals reckless dweomer to cast any spell in the spellbook? (that's how it works isn't it?)

I think you play him like you would any other wizard, and enjoy the Wild Surges as they come. If you could really use a spell at a certain moment, and don't have it memorized, roll those dice and go with NRD.

Well, I have always felt that all first level spells should be Nahal's Reckless Dweomer. A few Chaos Shields for level two and a few Improved Chaos Shield for level seven, for when you really need to be sure of what you're casting.

What fun is it playing a wild mage without going a little wild?

It's particularly funny to get your a** handed to you by a tag team consisting of: 1 goblin and yourself. The trade off for being a danger to yourself and others, though, is that you can also get that much more powerful as a Wild Mage. With Chaos Shields you can kick the living c*** out of anything.

I normally set Chaos Shield and NRD in a Spell Sequencer. It could be me, but I think I get more success with NRD that way...

At higher levels you don't need the shields that much and yes you can -and should- memorize as many NRD as possible.
I'm playing a low level Wild Mage with Tutu and it is both challenging and entertaining: if you've ever summoned a demon while trying to cast magic missile you'll understand what I'm saying. ;)

amen Caradhras. First time I played a wild mage, I had just ogtten out of the dungeon was in the circus of all places and tried to kill a werewolf with a magic missle. Having not saved in an eternity I was greatful that the demon vanished with the tent. I can't wait to see what I can do once the latest tutu bugs are fixed.
