Number of Attacks?

How is it determined? because I don't undersatnd how my kensai/thief has 4 attacks per round. He has 2 pros in Bastards, 2 in long swords, 3 in two weapon style. He has Foebane+5, blackrazor, and Khizdea(the sword of Catti)

All non-fighter classes generally only get 1 attack per round. That can be improved by some magical special-weapons like Belm and Kundane and bows for example (1 extra attack compared to melee attack).

Dualwielding adds another attack so that a thief, dualwielding two shortswords, will have 2 attacks. Whatever weapon combination you use, the maximum number of melee attacks is 5 (stuff like offensive spin and improved haste excluded).

Fighters are the only class that can have more than one melee-attack per round when using one weapon. The weapon specialisation adds another half attack.
They get their extra attacks every few levels (don't know exactly) - so on lvl-13 a fighter will end up with 5/2 attacks per round. Can't tell you more now - hope that helped.

It's late, I have just massacred one half of the forces of Nod and tomorrow is another workday for Major Havoc and me and I'm tired and need some sleep :coffee:

What's the normal maximum (items, spells, abilities excluded)? With one weapon, my fighters seem to get a max of 7/2 attacks. But I'm sure I've seen 4 stated as the maximum somewhere.

If you are a fighter of any kind, you get one half attack if you are specialized with the weapon you use. You get one extra attack if you have grand mastery. You get one half attack at level 7 and another half at level 13. You will get one extra attack if you wield another weapon (even if you are specialized or grand master in that weapon, you will never get more than one extra attack for another weapon). And finally I think that you will get one half attack wearing the boots of speed if your attack is something like 3/2 or 5/2. So if you have a fighter level 13 dual-wielding two axe with grand mastery and boots of speed, you will have five attacks per round. Oh and improved haste won't double the attack of your second weapon so if you cast improved haste on the fighter above, he would have 9 attack not 10.

[IMG] Ok, my summary, posted awake ;) : Your attacks add as follows:
    • you start with 1 attack
    • ** weapon specialisation adds another attack, so you have with 3/2 attacks
    • another half attack on lvl-7
    • another half attack on lvl-13
So a lvl-13 fighter char (that includes Barbarians/ Rangers/ Paladins) would have a base number of attacks of 5/2.

Some more points that have been wrong or unclear in Xenomorph's post:
    • The absolute maximum numbers of attacks unhasted is 5. So even when you have a lvl-13 fighter (5/2 attacks) dualwielding Belm and Kundane (1 extra attack each) you will not be better than 5 attacks though you could have 11/2. The number of attacks has been capped for game ballance.
    • Dualwielding will only add one off-hand attack per round. When casting haset or improved haster you have to see it isolated. These spells only increase/ double the number of "normal" attacks
    • You do not repeat NOT get an extra-attack for grandmastery in BG-2!!! :nono: That was a feature in IWD! Consider what I wrote about dualwielding and maximum number of attacks and you'll understand why - a grandmastery kensai with the extra attack would have had 13/2 attacks - again, the game ballance ... doh!
    • Boots of speed do in fact add another half attack in the charscreen, that is indeed the case. However, that must be considered a bug since the Boots of speed are supposed to only increase movement speed.
As for the effects of the spell effects - as far as I know them now:
    • The spell haste gives one extra attack, -2 on initiative and doubles movement rate.
    • Improved haste doubles the number of base attacks.
    Hope that helped.

[IMG] Then be happy and enjoy the uniqueness or your game. For game ballance reasons grandmastery does not give an extra attack in BG-2. Sorry Pal :(

Indeed I enjoy it, it seem I'm the only one on the board who have one extra attack with grand mastery.

[IMG] For information: What advantages do the weapon proficiencies give ?

    * PROFICIENT gives you no penalties, nothing else
** SPECIALIZED gives you +1 to hit and +2 to damage and 1/2 extra attack
*** MASTERY gives you +2 to hit - otherwise saa
**** HIGH MASTERY gives you -1 on your weapons speed factor - otherwise saa
***** GRAND MASTERY gives you +3 on damage - otherwise saa - NO EXTRA ATTACK!

I know but for a reason I ignore, I have one extra attack with grand mastery. Maybe there was a batch of games like that. I'm surely not the only one.

You actually make me curious about cour char. What weapons does he use? There are two melee weapons that give one extra attacks: The shortsword Kundane and the Scimitar Belm. The other weapon is the Bow of the Tuigan. These weapons, combined with the boots of speed, could give the impression of having 5 attacks per round. Please tell more!

First I don't talk about only one character but every characters I made. And if I create a character with say, grand mastery in halberds, he will start with 3 attacks.

What level are they ? Please be a little more generous with info ... :(

Try this to check if it's your game or the equipment of your chars: Create two chars in ToB, let's say ranger and a fighter. Give the ranger weapon specialisation ** with halberds. Then create a pure fighter with grandmastery ***** in halberds and compare both chars. Don't equip anything else but the weapons, especially not the boots of speed!
Tell me what you see. When the fighter has a higher number of attacks your game is buggy, reinstall it.

It's done, but I started a game in SoA instead of ToB (does it really matter?. So...
-ranger level 7 no equipment exept halberd, ** in halberd= 2 attack
fighter level 7 no equipment exept halberd, ***** in halberd= 3 attack

It shouldn't be that way ... however, your game is not rule conform. You are using your PC alone? Are you sure noone has installed the so-called "grandmastery patch" cheat without your knowledge?

I'm alone on it and as I say, it's like that since I have the game and yes it was new. Do you think it's cheating to take advantage of that «bug»? Because I don't like cheating.

[IMG] I like to think so ... anyway, when your char has grandmastery and one extra attack you won't change it by creating a new char. Anyway, a reinstall only takes bout 30 min (at least on my pc) ;)

PS: Your game confused me that much I started a new game to check if I as right: But fortunately my pally with ** and my fighter with ***** with two-handed swords had 5/2 attacks per round each - gosh! :D ;)

I don't really want to reinstall it as I already did it once and the grand mastery things don't changes. And as I said, when I installed it for the first time ( no patch, nothing) it was like that. So I dont't think it will do anything about it to reinstall.
    My game is unique youpi!!!:)
