    Hi,

So I've installed IA (along w/ kelsey, kivan, banter pack, xan, Tower of deception, Baldurash fixpack, TOB Patch), but haven't installed ease of use.

    A couple of questions:
    - is IA just too hard without some of ease of use components (in particular the one where you can combine magic items / armor, and the XP cap). I know they're recommended in the readme, but I haven't isntalled.

    - if I want to install, can I install it now, or do I need to uninstall and then reinstall evrything?

    Thanks

It can be done even without any component of EoU.
But for sure installing them will make you game easier, so it's up to you.

I just recommend the True G.Mastery component. For me it's more of a fix rather than a tweak.

I am quite sure that you can install them even after you have started your game without problems.

thanks th truth, your answers are always very helpfhul
How about Dungeon be Gone, can I install that after Ease of use?
So basically, I'm going to add a few ease of use components, and then Dungeon Begone to my already installed components.
    thanks!

That should work. I know Dungeon Be Gone is compatible with IA 4.2, but Sikret cautions that you wait a minute or so before you teleport out of the dungeon (this allows the item randomizer to finish its operation)

Install anything you want, then uninstall IA and install it again to make sure that it is the last installed mod (hitting the RE-install option will not do; uninstall IA completely and install it again after your other mods).

Also, if you want to install Ease-of-Use, it is strongly recommended that you install the original (Weimer's) Ease-of-Use (and not the G3 BG2Tweakpack which also has similar components).

Why? Curious minds want to know. I'm thinking of playing IA in my next BG2 run and there are a number of things in the BG2 Tweak pack that I like and would like to install. Are there some specific incompatibilities that we should be aware of? Thx.

I have received several reports from various players informing me of serious problems they have experienced while using G3's BG2 Tweakpack with IA. I don't have the time to check BG2 Tweakpack's codes to see its differences with the original Ease-of-Use, but I'm sure that (unlike the BG2 Tweakpack) the original Ease-of-Use works smoothly and without any problems with IA.

There is a feud between Sikret and the makers of fixpack. You see it now and then on this forum. Both mods will work just fine with IA, ignore what both parties have to say on the matter.

This isn't true - there have been some definite conflicts between the Fixpack and IA.
Do not install bottomless bag of holding, Shapeshifter rebalancing, Multi-Class Grand Mastery, No Traps or Locks and Invisible Cloak of Mirroring (all from Weimer). There are likely to be other incompatibilities especially in regards to components that change the same weapons that IA alters.
Having said that if you are really, really careful and only install components that you are sure wont conflict you might be alright. Both Myself and Marceror took this approach and neither of us have encountered any gamebreaking bugs. Also of note is that Sikret probably won't be wanting to help solve bugs caused by the actions of players who consciously installed mods/components he advised against.

As I said, I don't have the time to check the codes of the G3 tweakpack to see its differences with the original Ease-of-Use, but the reports I have received indicate in even more serious problems than what stu mentioned. For example, a player reported that when he uses G3 tweakpack, Cromwell doesn't accept his protection rings as valid ingredients to forge items. This problem doesn't exist if you use the original Ease-of-Use. The "Avatar morphing scripts" component of the BG2 Tweakpack is also reported to be incompatible with IA.

Die_Bad_Guys, however, seems to know better than we do; because he confidently stated that the tweakpack will just work fine with IA (and indicated that I was lying to you when I said that I had received reports of incompatibilities from players!). So, it's upto the players to follow his advice or ours.

[IMG] Let's not go down this road again... obviously the issue here is two differing views of what constitutes compatibility. For a casual player compatibility where installing these two mods alongside will still allow you to play the game and take advantage of the majority of both mods' features and complete the game with both of them installed means satisfactory compatibility. For another person anything but 100% compatibility of every single component of both mods means incompatibility.

If you won't be bothered by certain things in both mods not working properly when installed alongside (or if you want to install only specific EoU components which will not cause any issues with IA), then feel free to install both mods and enjoy them. Just don't complain when certain things don't work properly - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

But if you want 100% compatibility of boths mods - it's not available at this point. The only way to be 100% sure that every mod is working as intended is to install either IA or EoU, but not both at the same time (with the exception of IA and the older EoU version, which Sikret has verified as being compatible with IA).

    All clear?

Yeah. Even if the smallest feature of a mod is changed in an unwanted way, or broken, then there is incompatibility. All features are added to enhance the gaming experience, to form the overall picture of the mod -- and while one player might not mind the lack or change of a very minor feature, another player would be disappointed, because he finds it important. So modders use a different, more strict definition of compatibility than players (and some modders), because they want to guarantee that all features will work. They can't say "they will work fine approximately"...

For all those who want to experiment: as Tal (and others too) said, feel free to do whatever you want, but you were warned.
