[IMG] So I'm annoyed of always having to bring Yoshimo, Nalia, or Imoen or Jan along because they are the only thieves if your PC isn't one.
Would going through the game without a thief be just too hard?
Locks and doors could be opened with knock spells, but anyway to disarm traps other than with a thief?
How about the detect trap spell?

    Thanks!

Nope, playing without a thief means there is no way to disarm traps. The detect traps spell will find them, but won't do anything about disarming them. You either have to send summons through them, or a buffed party member. While those things can be done, they make playing the game a lot more annoying than having to take a thief along, in my opinion ;)

Too bad only thieves can disarm traps.

Rangers should have some skill in that I feel, as well.

Why don't you just set up a multi-player game with two PC's and have the second one be some kind of thief? This way, you customize your thief to your liking.

Alternatively, you can use Shadowkeeper and change Nalia to be the thief you want her to be.

I believe Ease of Use mod has a feature to disable all traps and locks.

Dunno if you'd really want to do that, thieves = good XP :) .

You can just walk through traps with a buffed character and try to offset the damage. There's always the Cleric spell "Find Traps" to find them and then send the buffed up chump through. Also, Monks can find traps, just not disarm them.

A thief is definitely useful in the game, but a part-time thief is sufficient to deal with any locks and traps.

Personally I prefer Jan as my part-time thief. Unlike Imoen and Nalia, whose thief skills are carved in stone, Jan can continue to become a better thief as the game progresses. He is also a good back-up mage, able to cast the Divination spells when necessary that Edwin cannot. And Jan is neutral so he should fit well into any party.

It is possible. I have managed twice. But without disabling locks, it is almost impossible if you do not at least have a mage to knock. For the traps, a stoneskin or a spell immunity:whatever school the trap is, works just fine. Even feels kind of fun seeing those maze-traps just peel off you..
